WOO HOO!! got my informal offer. It looks like I see others getting them as well so I suppose things are starting to move... My position is for middle school science and math, and secondary math in Bahrain.
Thanks to all the assistance and words of encouragement, now a whole new set of questions will follow...
Joe Wachsthats just how my company does it. they fly us home to our home of record every summer. I have kept my parents address as my residency and mail address. Which international school will you be at?
I know of ma...See MoreYou can keep your address listed as a US address which will help. If you are living and working outside of the US though (and using your int'l school employer as a reference and/or for years of experience), it can still be questioned since the actual policy on benefits refers to where you are located when you accept the offer.
I know of many people who were hired while teaching internationally but were able to provide proof that their school provided them with travel/relocation and housing benefits as an incentive to move overseas and so qualified for the same benefits with DoDEA. The only times it's been an issue (that I've heard of) were in situations where the person was already living in the commuting area of the school/job offer or had moved overseas on their own initiative and then got a job.
But, everyone has their own story so maybe it will not even be a question for some (like Joe).
SLP-T@CF-SLP, I think you are fine to be hired once you have your CCC however, DODEA doesn't accept state licensure for our positions. It has to be from your states dept of ed. I had to submit my old cf paperwork because I wasn't paying ETS $50 for a copy of my scores from years ago.
CF-SLPThanks, @SLP-T! It is required for me to be licensed with my state's Department of Education for my CF anyway, so that will all be in order. Thanks for everyone's input!
After receiving an email about being referred is it ok to contact the principal if I haven't heard anything or am I supposed to wait and see if they contact me and if not just let it go? What is the best course of action, the best approach?
hahaThere is always that chance but they are not likely to NOT interview you just because of it. If your name is on the list then interviewing you is not a breach of protocol.
But that is a decision everyone has to make for themselves, take a small chance or sit back and wait and hope.
I have completed the application and I am hoping for a referral soon. IF I get an interview do I give references to that principal or do they use the references listed on website application page?
southernteachThey use the references on the application. If they need additional info they will contact the references via email and ask. That has been my experience. It depends on each principal/school.
Does that mean they're doing the initial background check? HR had already deemed me qualified in that area (and others) when I submitted my application, right?
I've previously worked DODEA and Child Development Services with DA, not to mention my civilian job, and had many background checks (NACI, if my memory is right). So would that make the process faster?
I received this reply: "Yes it is normal. We are in the middle of transitioning our Personnel security team from under DLA to Dept of Army, so it may be a while. I really do not know their process at this time."
CMI've been going through the same thing. I'm trying not to pester my HR Rep about this since it's close to being a month since I've sent in my paperwork, and I'd hope that everything would be completed in time for the start of the next school year. Glad to know it's not just me!
So if you are having issues you better stay on them! Or you many be waiting additional months and years to be qualified/obtain referral for areas you are qualified in.
IbeforeEPls share some tips on how to highlight your app. I've been "qualified " for 2 months but no referrals. Any suggestions? ps yes indeed squeaky wheel gets the oil
world2goThis just happened to my wife last month. She interviewed and her references were contacted the next day. After three weeks of waiting, she called hq to find that the offer had been sent to someone else. Hopefully her case isn't the norm and you'll get the offer.
