IsItFriday?Get a cert in a core subject. If you are up for a 0/5 music position, as long as you have a core subject cert the primcipal can easily shuffle people around to fit you into an FTE,
If you see yourself leaning towards ES, then I second the previous suggestion of Art or Sped.
Thanks for any guidance...See MoreMy application was approved for the 2018-2019 school year- but I wanted to know how long the process might take to be hired. I was hired as a sub in Korea but haven't been called yet for an interview as a teacher. Since they picked me up as a sub for the coming year, will they not choose me as a teacher this year ?
hahaNo problem. You might want to contact the principal(s) who are supposed to interviewing and ask them directly if there are (or they are anticipating) any actual openings for your qualification areas. If you get an answer that might make your decision a bit easier.
So I actually ventured into nursing before I became a teacher and took 24 hours of biology both upper level and lower level. (at least I believe they would be considered upper level) Does anyone know where I could take 6 hours in biology or science? This would qualify me to teach middle school and secondary general science as well as biology. Also, what does DODEA consider to be upper level hours? Thanks!
hahaI stand corrected. It looks like they use quarter credit units which I'm not familiar with so do the research before counting on a 3 unit class to count for 3 credits with DoDEA.
Since this is my first time applying, how long can I expect this process to take? What is the next step after contacting my employer? Is it realistic to expect to have a position for the 2018-19 school year? Do most teachers start at the beginning of the traditional school year or are they hired year round?
More certs/quals makes you eligible for more positions and gives principals more flexibility to fill timetables, rearrange staffing assignments when student needs change, etc.
If/when you land an interview, that's when you make sure to hit all of your relevant experience, training, etc. to spin yourself in the best possible light to fill the current needs of the school AND offer flexibility for the future.
If you are entitled to veterans' preference and qualified for the position, your name will be placed above non-preference candidates on a list sent to the hiring manager for employment consideration. Qualified veterans' preference eligible with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest quality category depending on the position and grade level of the job.
So, it seems that Veteran's preference only puts you to the top of the Best Qualified list if you have 10% or greater disability.
I am applying for a position in Korea. I need to change it for my specific location of Camp Humphreys. I see how to pick Korea but not Camp Humphreys. How do I change it on my application?
I just figured out I can add on several subjects by taking the Praxis in my state. Does this reduce the hours I would need with DoDEA? Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!
