I tried to find and message you on the Dodds teacher facebook, but I may have messaged another Wilma. On Facebook I'm listed as B Kerri Call. Can you message me so I can ask you some questions specific to Korea? Thanks.
Thank you for all your help. I hope that I can give back to this chat-board one day instead of just asking nuanced questions.
My question are these:
1. Upon getting hired at a base in Japan how is the pay distributed? All of my credit card payments, utilities, services, rent, is on an automatic withdrawal system from my Japanese bank account, which I have maintained for the last 7 years. Will I be forced to have an American bank account, or can I retain my Japanese bank accounts and receive my pay by direct deposit in Yen? I am not sure how this works.
2. The pay is listed as 55,000 dollars a year. Depending on the strength or weakness of the dollar, do overseas Dodea employee salaries actually fluctuate from year to year? Or is it adjusted or inflated accordingly to keep in at 55,000 dollars(no matter if the dollar is strong or weak) without being a financial detriment to the overseas employee.
I know someone who has a Japanese bank account and I believe she withdraws from the US bank to deposit in the Japanese bank. You let HR know where to direct deposit your pay. They need routing number etc. I do not know if this can be a Japanese bank or not.
Once there, you would have different options to get it into your Japanese bank account and/or pay your Japanese bills. For example, we are able to pay our rent to the Japanese management company directly from our bank account (although the military exchange rate is not always that kind to us).
"Citizenship/Ordinarily Resident Status: Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must not hold Dual Citizenship in the country they are applying within and who are not considered Ordinarily Resident under the applicable Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). An ordinarily resident is anyone who has lived in the host country longer than the allowed number of days without being a member of the forces assigned, civilian component or a family member of either the aforementioned or who has obtained a work permit for any duration. Ordinarily Resident restrictions apply and vary depending on the host nation.
Dual Citizens will not be appointed to positions within the country in which they hold dual citizenship. Citizenship eligibility will be verified prior to appointment.
Positions in Italy and Turkey: Selectee will be required to have a Visa/Soggiorno if the position is located in either Italy or Turkey."
The problem is my wife and kids have dual USA/ Italian citizenship, and Italy would be our most desired location. I'm on the road to dual citizenship, but haven't completed the process. We have never lived or worked in Italy. But I am eligible for citizenship there. Based on this, am I ineligible for DoDEA postings in Italy? Or, if I halt my own process before I have gain citizenship, would I have a chance? Thanks so much for any insight or thoughts!
LolaTeachI work in the Southeast and we were recently joined by three new hires. I'm not too sure that there is a freeze, otherwise no-one would be hired. One of the positions was only advertised about a month ago.
GinaThanks, everyone! @Mary, my application status is still active. @LolaTeach, I'm just going by what HR said...that she can't proceed with several applications until she's been told the hold is lifted.
LolaTeachYes, but they only have a check for $8000 and the prize is $4000. You'll have to send the difference to a Nigerian bank account in order to claim your prize. ;-)
Super excited! - I interviewed early last week for a Sped LIMS position in Japan. Today I received my tentative offer. This was my first year applying, but I have to thank this board for preparing me. We are thrilled to be going to Japan!
Either he met and hired someone when he was out drinking at the weekend, or we got trolled.
