I have submitted for the 18/19 school year. Is it heard of for people to get offers the first year they apply? I'm really hoping and praying that I do!!
somedayI noticed last year elementary teachers were getting hired that had compensatory math and/or reading in addition to their elementary qual. You should check those boxes also and when they do your evaluation they will let you know what you need if anything.
HelpOthersI agree. You will want to add something other than the 1-6 certification. Also, make sure to update your application each year you continue to be interested if you are not chosen this year.
I have an interview for a part-time Pre-K positon at a stateside school. Does anyone have information on pay rates for 3 years of experiance and other benefits I might expect?
HelpOthersYou can ask HR if the position has been filled. Sometimes, there is a delay if the person initially offered the job declines the offer, or later pulls out after they have accepted the offer. See if you application is still active. If your application is frozen or on hold, that is an indicator that you may be offered a position.
This waiting is the worst! I wish I could hear something! I am willing to go anywhere just want the chance to get back into DODEA. After 25 years of following my active duty husband and making a career out of wherever we went, it is my turn to take us on our next adventure. But I can't seem to make this happen!
Japan, especially locations where the MAC flies direct...See MoreMake sure you update EAS each Feb-March. RE-upload your transcripts and teaching certificate EACH year. Even if nothing has changed, because this triggers the hiring year as well (the next column on the page). Also apply through USA Jobs whenever there is an applicable position posted.
Japan, especially locations where the MAC flies directly in and out of could be hops too.
Any idea how often HS Social Studies openings occur overseas? I have an MS+12 with 13 years of experience and some AP certs. I was excited to get qualified but nothing so far and now worry I'm hoping for a unicorn.
hahaI'm not sure you can be that specific about your target job on the EAS. I would put down SPED categories along with the SS. SS/SPED combos are fairly rare but not unheard of. I would also try and add the AVID if you can, just to have one more area that is fairly easy to add to the SS.
I have accepted a position in Catania, Italy off the mediterranean coast and had a few questions. I greatly appreciate any insight anyone can offer:
1) I understand there is some kind of program for teachers to move between schools, I can't imagine there would be anywhere else I would want to go but I understand that my location is highly desirable by other DODEA teachers. Could I be pushed out of my position by another teacher who might have more seniority in another district?
2) Where do teachers live, do they mostly live on base or off? Is living off base an option or required? I would prefer to live off base along the coast preferably along the beach or near it, would my LQA be sufficient to afford this?
3) How do teachers transport themselves between school and the city. I can not find any public transportation between Catania and Sigonella? Does the base operate some kind of transit shuttle? I have read that traffic is horrible in Catania, would I need a car or would something like a Vespa be better or even feasible?
4) How do female teachers dress? I was thinking since it's the mediterranean that capris, a blouse and wedges seem ideal?
5) When I travel does it have to be point to point? Can I leave on the first day my orders will allow and fly into Paris, spend a couple days, then head to Rome and spend a couple days, and possibly a stop or two more along the way? Does it all have to be air travel, can I fly into Europe like Heathrow, and then take the train, stopping along the way?
6) Is learning Italian something highly advised or can I get by with just English?
Again, thank you all very much for any advice and insight anyone is willing to share.
On base, I'm sure you ca...See MoreSigonella is a hardship location due to it being on an island at the southern tip of Italy. To fly anywhere, you have to first fly to the mainland, for connections.
As far as fashion, It changes every year. You'll see what's in style when you get there. They have shopping centers with affordable clothing.
On base, I'm sure you can wear whatever you want, off base, yoga pants may call for unwanted, almost excessive cat calling. Sicilian men are hot blooded! LOL.
2) As has been stated, I understand the crime rate is high there- you can pay for protection and gated communities are a must. It may be a beautiful location, but I do not believe it is one of the ones people are fighting to get to. If you enjoy your time there, and want to stay until you retire, you may be able to do that.
3) I do not know the answer to this question.
4) In most DoDEa schools, capris, a blouse and wedges would be appropriate. While you are probationary, you may want to dress that part more than the teachers who have been there a long time, so while you may see others in jeans and t-shirts, you may want to dress a little dressier- but it is not required. Fridays especially tend to be jeans and school t-shirt days in most schools.
5) When you are traveling on orders, they are responsible for your safety, so they will likely give you the most direct route possible.
6) You can likely get by with English but will enjoy your time there more if you can communicate and get around easily.
LeoThanks, T.Rob. We are both plugging away and hoping one of us will get hired in the next couple of years. I know the experience would be fantastic for the kids. They are young, but not babies, so the right time for us. Best of luck to you too!
What is this thing with a burgundy passport? I have a blue one and am sort of proud of all my entrance and exit stamps I have collected in it. They want me to send it in to get a burgundy passport. I have a pink passport cover but I could get a burgundy one if I needed too. Can I just use the one I have without giving it up?
I've heard of people retaining their passports when applying in the US and being told that in an emergency they could travel to their new post on the tourist passports if the official ones did not arrive in time, but that was a while back and I don't know all of the details.
In general, the passport process is fairly straightforward (compared to the background check process) and if you are applying now (or reasonably early in the hiring season) you should not have any issues,
Does anyone know: Do teachers typically live on base or off base? Do you feel safe/ or is everyone pretty worried about a war? In general do you like it?
We have school age children- Do kids seem to like living on base? What questions should I have asked before making this decision? Or what else would you share with someone in my position? Thanks!
HelpOthersAZPsych. You actually won't have an option. If they both want you, it will depend which one HR sees first and offers you. If you turn down an offer, you won't be given another offer the rest of the year, so take the one you get. :) Hopefully the one you want works faster than the other, but they are both great places to live and work.
