I received referrals for a few positions (Fort Bragg, Puerto Rico, and SC) back in Feb and have not received anything since... Will they notify me if they choose someone for the position, or will I be left in the lurch wondering?
I love this board. Thank you all for all the hardwork! :)
Also, I've been a school counselor for 11 years. Are there many school counselor positions available from year to year. I have only seen a few posting that are limited to veterans.
Counselor position openings are relatively few in number every year, but they do happen. DoDEA generally does not post overseas openings. The positions recently listed on USA Jobs are just to generate applicants for the candidate pool and are not really for specific openings.
somedayI will throw my information up also. I have had an interview. I am also science which is MS HS General, Biology and Chemistry (still working on 4 credits for math.) I have ten total qualifications. I have ten years of experience and considered Masters plus 30. I really think that I will see more action once I finish up this math course.
My wife had a Masters and ES 1-6 and 8 years experience (when she applied). She made one referral list and had one interview, no offers. We had both selected all overseas areas except Turkey and Cuba.
Once I finished my Masters in SPED and added more SPED certs (for a total of 9) I had an interview and an offer almost immediately (with 9 years of experience when I got the offer).
However, they are requiring me to have an addit...See MoreSo, I was qualified today to teach 1-6 after I submitted another transcript. I also reached out to the DODEA and talked to a really nice lady there and the courses I selected from La Verne University will qualify me for Mild/Moderate for Sp. Ed. as that is what my teaching certificate is in.
However, they are requiring me to have an additional 3-semester hours course directly related to severe learning disabilities. I can not find one that is suitable at La Verne, that will get me the 3 semester hours. Does anyone else have some resources as to where you could take this particular class online ?
BuzzNot sure about that particular class, but I used this site to help me find a school--https://www.guidetoonlineschools.com/online-schools-- Maybe you could find something by digging around the list it provides. I like it b/c it ranks accredited schools by affordability.
My husband and I are hoping to get DoD teaching jobs overseas (he was previously stationed in Japan while in the Marines). My application was updated to 'Qualified' today, but stated they are still waiting on one of my evaluations. I am curious, will my application be visible to prospective schools only after my previous principal submits the form or can they see it now? Thanks for any feedback!
We have had people post experiences to the contrary recently so it's hard to say either way with any certainty. When in doubt, try reaching out to the person who told you that they are still waiting for a reference and ask them.
Ocasionally HR may comsider an unfinished application when they filling a position for which they are low on qualififed applicants. Don't count on this.
I recently applied for several dodds teaching positions. My status came back qualified. I understand they take the top 10 to 50 applicants and place them on a referral list. Will I be notified if I did not make the referral list??
HI can't answer your specific questions, but I can say that for mainland Japan I have interviewed three times over the last couple of years, and for every interview I never received a referral. On the other hand, I have been on a couple of referrals for other countries, and was never asked for an interview.
In general, it does seem that new hires are more likely to be in the Pacific since internal candidates are more likely to be moving from the Pacific to Europe through the transfer round, etc (and from Korea to Mainland Japan/Okinawa). There are always exceptions though as unexpected/late openings do happen in Europe from time to time.
