hahaStateside, 5 years is the max credit you can get and you start at Step 0, so Step 5 is the highest step you can be hired at. Overseas, 10 years is the max credit you can get and everyone starts on Step 1 so Step 11 is the highest step you can be hired at.
HelpOthershaha is correct and the American Territories (Guam and Puerto Rico) are on the same schedule as the Americas, so step 5. When you switch from one area to the other your position will go up or down if you start with more than 5 years of experience.
HelpOthersYou can request up to four evaluations, so just list this person as the fourth one. Use a different spelling or phone number, so when this person says the reference has been updated, you can delete the previous one.
HelpOthersFor example, use or don't use a title or middle name/initial for the person or put the area code in parenthesis this time, or don't if ou did it last time. The information for both is correct, but slightly different so you know which one to delete.
Ok, so I have seen people posting about reuploading documents etc. My application is still showing green checks. I can upload new documents and change my stuff but the green checks are still showing completed? Does anyone know if the wipe out is automated? I just want to make sure everything is good to apply for 18-19. Thanks!
It may or may not matter since I don't know if this was con...See MoreI do recall someone (I think it was Mary) cautioning people.regarding the documents. The date "last updated" should apparently coincide with the "SY considered" years. Hers did not for a year or two and I recall that she felt this kept her from being considered during those years.
It may or may not matter since I don't know if this was confirmed by someone at HR but it's probably worth checking the dates and re-uploading if they don't match.
Yes, you do need to upload those same exact documents again each year (in Feb/March when asked to update your application) and go through checking those boxes again. Make sure on your page with all the documents that the school-year to the right of every document is the upcoming school-year.
4.13.17 LS - Please upload a copy of your course-by-course transcript evaluation report so that we can identify that you have completed 12 semester hours in music and a minimum of 9 semester hours in professional teacher education course work is required.
---------
I have a BA in music, but don't have 9 hours professional teacher education course work.
(The evaluation report is because I attended school in Canada)
I completed an alternative cert. program in Florida and have been teaching for six years.
Does this mean I won't be approved. Anyone have any ideas? I'll email HR but figured I'd reach out here as well.
HelpOthersLook up your university course catalog from the years you earned the credits. Send those pages as another transcript or e-mail them if you have been asked for an e-mail. Make sure you send them the pages that have the descriptions of your music and education classes, so they can determine whether you meet their minimum requirements.
For those hired from DDESS, how does the resignation process work? Do you give notice once you have orders in hand? Is there a certainty n amount of time you should give before resingning?
Haha, I had a question for you! When I was researching Japan I read something about how tattoos there are taboo. I have one on my leg from my younger days and if I got a position in Okinawa I would definitely want to go to the beach occasionally. Is this true?. Do the tattoos need to be covered?
Looking into making a career move. Currently teaching in TN, married with two kids. I am trying to find some information on the pros and cons of teaching overseas and haven't found any current opinions. Can you folks help me out?
Does anyone know after the transfer round etc. if there are currently any jobs open overseas for teachers of the visually impaired and or TVI/LIMM overseas? Like even internally listed? I know Japan has had openings and I was even told I would get an interview but then no response. Does anyone know of anything? Thanks.
southernteachSo they combined hearing impaired with visually impaired? I believe that may be a hard combo to find. Oh well. Thanks for updating me haha.
I believe the HI position has been filled. I had not heard about combing it with the VI position. Japan (DoDEA Pacific East) is a large area with some complexes many hours away from others (full-day of travel). Likely anyone hired for a VI position would need to travel to all complexes that have a student with VI and mobility needs every so often, unless only one complex needs a VI teacher; in which case, this teacher would need to teach another population of students as well.
Good evening! I'm curious as to how applications are scored. I'm a disabled veteran with a 10-point preference but I'm not sure how that's beneficial unless each application is scored on a points system. If that's the case, what are other areas that raise points? Having a masters? Being board certified?
Veteran's preference comes into play after that apparently. When principals are deciding between candidates and everything being equal, they are supposed to choose the veteran. Candidates are rarely completely equal though so it seems they can often choose who they want and just have to file a form explaining their decision.
