One last question. I am certified in...See MoreMy quals have been pending for over 4 weeks now. I have called and of course get the same answer " Its a long process" My question is how often do people get hired if it is their first time applying? I have read that some people wait years before they hear anything and that some people never get called.
One last question. I am certified in my state of Texas to teach EC-6 and EC-12 Sp.ED. I am currently a Sp. ED teacher, so I was curious how desirable those two certifications are?
Thank you all for the wonderful chat board , it is very informative.
Agree that they will qualify based on the certs and transcripts you provide and then tell you what you are short in additional areas (and as posted you can ask to be reevaluated when you have documentation of more classes taken).
As for the pending for 4 weeks, they may stay pending until someone starts looking for a position you have said you are qualified for. Then, they may review your qualifications to decide if they can include you in the referral list.
Unfortunately, there never seem to be enough people at HR to quickly and efficiently get through the busy times of the year.
I spent 5 wonderful years as a DoDDs teacher in Italy in the early 90's. I finally have the opportunity to return and have completed my application. My questions:
1. Does the prior DoDDs experience help?
2. Are there Educational Technologists at every school? Do the positions open up or are they coveted and tough to get? (I've let my other certifications lapse over the years)
2. I believe that each school has it's own ET. I can't say that for certain but even the smaller ES schools I'm familiar with have their own. I would say they are fairly hard to come by since it is one of the few positions teachers can move to where they are still in a school but do not have classroom/direct student responsibilities (if they are looking for that change/break).
That being said, ET's are hired every year so there is always a chance.
If you are already hired and are making a PCS move to a new post, you can request the advance before you move (and we actually have received the advance while still in our old location).
GingerZinI called them this morning to verify my references were all in. The woman mentioned they would be starting reviewing all the qualifications starting next week. She suggested calling 2 weeks if there had been no movement. Hope this helps.
SpedTeacher74You might try Psychology of Exceptional Children. That's the only other one I see that might work. I'd copy the syllabi and send it to your HR contact to verify.
I just got my third or fourth referral from them since October? Is there simply a lot of turnover related to military moves there or is there something about the school that employees leave because of? Just curious.
If I was notified that I was put on a list for a possible interview, would it help me at all to introduce myself to the principal? I would like to show initiative and be considered for an interview. Or, is it best to wait to hear from the principal for an interview?
In the case of being on a referral list for a specific position/school I have come to the opinion that it probably won't do any harm and there is a small chance that it could increase the odds that they want to interview you (provided that you write a nice, brief but impressive letter of introduction).
Either way is probably fine so follow your instincts and do what you are most comfortable with (being proactive vs waiting patiently).
No need to hold your breath just yet, there are some excessed educators that still need to be placed. I just got the Notice from the FEA. Until that issue resolved, technically positions can't be filled from CONUS.
Just letting everyone know, in case anyone was waiting for referrals. I know I am!
It would make sense that if no one left in the excess group has the certifications needed for an open position, they could then get permission to hire stateside (not that everything the gov't does always makes sense, to us at least).
