hahaNo, not that I recall. Maybe if/when the Japan list comes out there will be something. The only .5's I ever recall seeing with Art were .5 Art and .5 Music.
Haha I tried to ask to this before but I think it got lost in a thread :). I was wondering if you think that with this email coming out (which I never got) that said if you are updated by Feb.2 that you will be eligible for current vacancies that they might start the hiring process earlier this year.
LiteracyRocksI didn't get this email, but my application was not complete until tonight. I have been gathering up information and contact information for references. Since I did not have it in by Feb 2, am I out of consideration for the 18-19 school year?
somedayYou will still be considered for vacancies in 18/19. The email said if you are updated by feb. 2 you would be considered for current vacancies (these are probably ones created by transfer round) and if after feb.2 future vacancies for 18/19.
I have applied for a teaching position for overseas. My application was reviewed but needed official transcripts from one of my schools. Is the best way to send it to this address:
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE EDUCATION ACTIVITY RECRUITMENT UNIT
angelBut that is the address, except the first line for me was just DODEA. It wasn't spelled out like that. The second line was ATTN: so and so, the rest of the lines were the same as above.
hahaAs angel said, usually you just upload an official (opened obviously) transcript onto your EAS. If/when you get an offer you would then have to snail mail an unopened official transcript.
My husband just applied to the dodea for a music teacher position. If we are selected are there nursing jobs for civilians on base? Should we put this on the application? Would it help or hurt to put it on there?
There really isn't a place to put it on the EAS and it really wouldn't help or hurt you one way or the other. DoDEA doesn't really take the spouse into account, even when they are also a fully certified teacher.
I am trying to add qualifications to my DODEA license. I know how to go about adding teacher areas, but am getting ready to start an ed leadership program. I know that DODEA does not require the internship but the coursework/degree. However, how do you go about asking for an admin license? Is it separate from your teacher license?
Nana BOnce you have satisfied the ed leadership course requirements, you can apply via usajobs when an assistant principal or principal opening becomes available. On the application questionnaire, you will be asked about your coursework and/or state certification. Best of luck moving forward!
With DoDEA you would likely be looking at around 20K a year in straight pension. As someday pointed out you would also have SS because your DoDEA pension does not offset SS which is not the case in many states. Also, DoDEA offers matching funds that the gov't pays into your TSP (5%) which is basically free money invested in the instrument of your choice that you then can receive as an annuity when you retire (which your state may or may not also offer).
In addition you do have to look at the benefits that DoDEA offers that stateside schools do not. In DoDEA you would have 20 years of tax free benefits that pay your housing and utilities. You could use that money to invest save or even spend and be further ahead then you would be stateside (and yes, that is a slightly complicated comparison then if you were paying a mortgage stateside and getting a good return/equity which is not the case for many teachers).
Now, if you are at a District/state that pays at/near the top of the spectrum of teaching salaries and benefits, the higher salary might make up for some of the DoDEA benefits. Also, if your state has a great pension and also lets you collect SS then maybe you would be better off where you are strictly in terms of retirement.
So, there are many things to consider when trying to decide if DoDEA is right for you (while they are deciding if you are right for them).
Do y...See MoreA 62 yr old teacher in DODDS with a Master's degree who retires today with 20 years of service would collect about $16,000 as a pension (FERS annuity.)
Social security and 401ktype accounts compicate the question. But they won't change the amount of the FERS annuity.
A bugger question is where do you plan to reitire?
Do you plan to retire in Ohio? If so, maybe you're better off spending your career in Ohio, where you can build relationships that will sustain you in your old age. Try to think of the bigger picture. For example, do you want to see your grandchildren once a year while you work for DODDS or do you want a a closer relatiosnhip? Your choices may not be that clear cut, but hopefully you understand the point I'm trying to make.
The job seems to be mainly checking student's progress on the online coursework and sending out emails (if my experience of helping students who are taking virtual classes is anything to go by).
SpedTeacher74I'm curious to know too. It says they have virtual "hub's" in Weisbaden, Germany, Okinawa, Japan, and Quantico, Virginia, but then there is another one that says "all virtual hubs", so I don't know if those are the only three or if there are more not listed.
I still haven't heard anything about my orders, though I was supposed to get them early this week. Anyone I can contact to find out something? I can't resign and get a sub until I have those orders.
TheMiddleI imagine that even though the shutdown was only a day, they're probably even more backed up than before. Don't worry - it'll all work out :). Most of us have been in the exact same anxious resigning boat, and it'll be worth the nerves. Heck, I had to wait to resign until the day before school started.
