And a secondary question: our son graduated HS last year and we flew him home to the states to go to college. He ended up dropping out, long story, and we want to bring him back. BTW, we paid for his flights, not the government. Since this is our RAT year, and he's on the orders, will they pay to fly him back out here??
This past year they suddenly announced they would not reimburse you for tickets if you bought them before getting orders (which many people did because of the CR problem). They later backed off of that but keep it mind.
My understanding is that if your dependent is on your orders, they will pay to fly him back. It' probably worth a visit to your local travel office and put some questions to them about your specific situation,
Couple of QuestionsThanks, haha!! With my husband being a newer DoDDs teacher, and this being our first RAT, he's not familiar with the process. You've been a big help!! Now, hopefully he's familiar with TOPS, LOL.
What's the deal with setting up packouts and all of that? A friend told me that I go to the nearest base and have to set that up in person? WIll they send me a pass to get onto base?
hahaYes, it depends on the base. When you make the appt., ask about the procedure for that post/base. We actually were able to do everything by phone when we were hired.
IdaWe had to fill out a form online to bring with us to the base. We couldn't do that until we had our orders number. Then we called the office on the base and made an appointment. To get on we showed our ids and they called to the office to double check we did have an appointment.
IdaAs haha mentioned you don't get any money upfront. It is a good idea to make sure you have a credit card with at least $10,000 limit available as the expenses can add up. We received all reimbursements in a timely manner. Additionally, the salary advance came quite quickly.
Couple of QuestionsOur reimbursements and advance did not come as quickly as Brooks. Of course, we arrived in Italy in August (NOT a good time due to ferragosto!).
I have my interview on Wednesday for kindergarten . I'm in Germany and I have a face to face interview . I am very nervous . I'm a new teacher . Does anyone have any tip , advice etc . Thanks in advance !
Pre-K SPED is actually a very good certification to have for DoDEA. You would likely not have too much difficulty getting a job somewhere in Japan/Oki..
You are paid every 2 weeks. New hires are on 21 paychecks. You then have the option to switch to 26 paychecks after the first year.
Most people ship their furniture. Many also ship their vehicle. Some decide to leave the vehicle and pick one up overseas (if their vehicle is not the best one for the new location). Some locations (like Japan) do not allow you to bring a vehicle into the country if it was not made for that market).
I see on the USCIS site that application for naturalization by spouses of service members can be expedited and completed while abroad, but does that extend to civilian employees such as DoDEA teachers? I'm guessing this might be one of the infamous USCIS gray areas. Has anybody tested this yet?
2. Spouses of Military Members who are or will be Stat...See MoreIt looks like it may be possible for a spouse of a DoDEA teacher to actually complete naturalization while abroad, but the favorite word of the USCIS is 'may' as in maybe, so any experience anyone can share is much appreciated. Here's what the USCIS has posted:
===============
2. Spouses of Military Members who are or will be Stationed or Deployed Abroad (INA 319(b))
The law permits expedited naturalization in the United States for eligible spouses of U.S. citizen service members who are or will be stationed or deployed abroad. [10] This provision does not require any prior period of residence or specified period of physical presence within the United States for any LPR spouse of a U.S. citizen who is an employee of the United States Government (including a member of the U.S. armed forces) or recognized nonprofit organization who is stationed abroad in such employment for at least one year. [11]
In general, the applicant is required to be in the United States for his or her naturalization examination or interview and for taking the Oath of Allegiance for naturalization. [12]
Spouses of service members already accompanying and residing abroad with their military spouse may also qualify for naturalization through the general provision [13] or on the basis of their marriage to a U.S. citizen for three years. [14] Such spouses may be eligible for any naturalization proceeding abroad, to include interviews, filings, oaths, ceremonies, or other proceedings relating to naturalization. [15]
I submitted all of my application. It was evaluated right away. I submitted the wrong transcript. The message read to submit official transcript and that I will be re-evaluated. I uploaded the correct transcript. There is a link that says re-evaluate. When I click on it, nothing happens. Is there something else that I should do in this situation?
My DoDEA application for Pre-K, K, and 1-3 have all changed from pending to qualified, I don't see anything further to follow. So what's the next step? Will I be contacted if someone is interested?
On the upside, Pre-K and K are generally good certification areas to have since many/most Elementary teachers do not meet the DoDEA requirements for those areas (with DoDEA requiring specific Early Childhood classes that most states do not).
