hahaMy understanding is also that it varies quite a bit. Most locations it seems have teachers leaving off base and provide LQA. Some give you the choice and a few require you to be on base. And it changes over the years even at one location as active numbers go up/down and housing is renovated or not.
I have been looking for my English teacher from Giessen High School for a long time. The last time I saw her was a video she posted from Ansbach Germany a few years ago. I would love to get a hold of her. If anyone knows where she is, please let me know. Thank you.
The consensus over there is that you definitely do not give notice because until you have orders because you could end up with no income while waiting for those orders. Selling a house would seem to be a safer bet, as long as you had a reasonable plan on where you were going to live while you waited on orders/firm offer.
So basically, yes, you are virtually guaranteed about it being a matter of when, not IF. How comfortable you are with virtually will be a personal preference.
You are teaching science, correct? How is the availability of materials both durable and consumable? I know I have so many labs I do and would be lost if I didn't have all my gizmos to use. Are there companies that cater to the education arena in Europe similar to here in the states?
ScholarWe can get them but I still have time. And the kids are debating if they are up for the mass killing (it's against my views but I do think this and the animal behavior labs are important for lab techniques)
somedaySo I will be in the same boat with a 20 year old who isn't going to school full time. Just part time. The lqa would then reduce when she turns 21 right? Are you recommending locate a rental that would work with the lower LQA so I wouldn't end up out of pocket paying anything?
hahaI wouldn't worry too much about it. Even with just the "with family" (teacher plus at least one dependent) rate you would be just fine in most locations. We have the "2-3 Dependent" rate and even with a large (by Japanese standards) house off base we would still be fine with the lower rate.

Things not covered would be internet ($70), phone (don't have landline, mobile will vary greatly depending on your plan/usage), satellite TV service ($100), etc.
To those of you who have gotten recent offers (congratulations!). Maybe this is obvious, but does that mean you will be starting mid-year for this 17-18 school year? Does anyone have any insight as to how common that is? I"ve also read/heard from others that sometimes the process (between offer and arrival on base) is many months, while for others, it can be relatively quick. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Generally you will still s...See MoreNo problem. Generally they would only look at applications that were in the system/renewed in April (or whenever the renewal date is for that year) for the following school year. In some cases (like with hard to fill positions) they would look beyond that group and check out anyone in the system with those certs.
Generally you will still see a few mid-year hires in January but after that they are likely to try and make it through the year with a long term sub or hire someone local, even if they are teaching out of area.
I need some advice. I received my firm offer, yay! But on Work Type it says Full Time "Seasonal"? Umm.....did yours say permanent? I am a bit sad and confused by this.
hahaAll teachers are considered seasonal since we do not work year round and we get our summers off (as opposed to admin, office workers etc). It's a good thing. :D
