Unless you get very lucky (some people do), lack of experience will be an issue. So, get certified, get your application in and get a teaching job as soon as you can and starting notching some years of experience.
Can someone please explain how placement on the pay scale works? I am used to seeing years of experience and level of education, and the posted scale is grade and step. I have taught for 22 years and have a Masters + 145 credits.
Both scales ARE based on level of education and years of experience, but look a little different from what you may be used to (and from each other).
For overseas, DoDEA will generally credit you with up to 10 years experience, with everyone starting on Step 1. So, the highest step you could start on would be Step 11. For salary lane, it is based on BA + 15, +30 or Masters +15, +30, Doctorate. For you, it sounds like the highest starting position would be Step 11, under the Masters +30 salary lane.
DoDEA Americas only grants 5 years or credit and everyone starts on Step 0, so Step 5 would be the highest. Salary lane is a bit weird because they use numbers instead of degree +. If you look back a few years on older salary scales, you can see what the letter correspond with. I believe Masters +30 corresponds to Lane 16. EDS to Lane 17 and Doctorate to Lane 18.
Dr. Ali FantAnd I suspect that current Federal Employees are given a higher preference ranking than former and non Federal Employees. With all the preferences, it is difficult to be among the top three candidates presented by the computer to the hiring authority.
SlcjklYes, I used LaVerne, Fresno Pacific, Advancement Courses, The Connecting Link, pdcourses.net, and webteaching. Each is accepted because each results in a transcript from an accredited school, as long as you pay for that option.
primarypodYou have to be in the US for one calendar year to be eligible to have your own transportation agreement, LQA, etc. There are very few exceptions ever made.
HelpOthersAlaska does not have any DoDEA schools. If you apply to DoDEA schools within the USA, there is no LQA, but after living/working in the USA for at least a year, you could apply for positions overseas and hope to receive the benefits. However, I am not sure how that works with Leave without Pay and for how long you can take LWOP.
Hello everyone! I interviewed two weeks ago and I haven't heard anything(positive or negative). I'm really depressed about it. I noticed on the FB page that most people interview and receive a tentative offer within a few DAYS later. Has anyone ever waited WEEKS and still received a tentative offer? TIA!
Pre-K_SPEDThank you both for your responses. I contacted HR and they informed me that unfortunately the position has been filled. This was only my second interview. I have had almost 50 referrals since first applying 3 years ago. I am only qualified in Prekindergarten and Kindergarten. I will just keep trying, but I REALLY wanted this position.
hahaSorry to hear that, but better to know I guess. At least they told you something. Generally they will not confirm anything until the successful candidate has completely cleared the process and gotten orders or a firm offer (which often takes months). Best of luck for future opportunities.
From previous posts, I understand that your qualifications are not reviewed until you are on a referral list. Will you receive the referral list email if you have asked for a re-evaluation of a not qualified position. Or do you not receive referral list emails until you are marked qualified? Thank you!
hahaReferral list emails are just for potential specific openings. According to HR you could get a referral for certification areas marked pending, so I guess in theory you could get one for an area that you have requested a re-eval on, but who really knows at this point? Keep writing and bugging someone to take another look at your application.
hahaIt is what it is. DoDEA actually isn't too bad compared to the state of NY. They basically were wanting me to go back and get another degree, despite being experienced and fully certified in another state.
I was trying to find the DODEA teacher salary schedule. When I click on the page I get an error message. Anyone know where I can view the salary schedule?
