I think it's based on how "well rounded" your resume is. They may be looking for a teacher for 3rd grade, however, if you are also certified for other grades as well, your chances of landing an interview go up as they may be anticipating needing you in other areas in the future. Does anybody have information about teaching gifted with DODDS? Do kids take IQ tests? Are they serviced for a certain amount of hours? Is there a set curriculum? After receiving these emails, I would really like to pursue this for next schoolyear.

To be honest, in many/most school gifted is a mishmash, if not a hot mess. Gifted students are not on IEP's like in many states and the idea of service minutes is not really a thing (or is at least not a real thing).

Did you interview for the elementary position? I think I interview Monday for that one.

SpedTeacher74 - no. It was for the middle school. Mahaffrey Middle School. The interview went SUPER well.... I only wish I had an idea of how long it takes to hear back from HR. She DID warn me that since it was the Federal Government, that it would probably be a while. :-(

You generally would get reimbursed (including realtor fees) for everything except the deposit (which will come back directly to you when you move out).

It's generally very competitive and having multiple certifications definitely helps. That being said, hundreds of people get hired every year and some of them will likely only have one certification area, so anything is possible.

I had a social studies certification to teach in california and qualified to teach DODEA. I was in the system 2 years without so much as a referral. After reading these posts I realized that DODEA goes by university credit. I am now qualified to teach spanish, social studies, AVID (had implementatio training) and am waiting for humanities clearance...See More

Coliveira77, I am in the process of applying myself so my knowledge is based on reading a years worth of this forum. The only thing I can answer 100% is to have the transcripts sent to you, they will be request at a later time. haha, is the current resident guru.

Have you switched your target location to your new posting yet? That's the only way a principal in the area could know that you were going to be available as a local hire. Also, if you have not already you should email the principal(s) in the area to introduce yourself and let them know of your availability.

Haha I hope they will consider me. I finish my class in November and will submit my transcripts to HR. They have told me I can then compete for both LIMM/VI. I'm taking it from Grand Canyon like you had suggested. Here's to hoping!!
