I am glad that I found this chat. I am in the very early stages of applying for the DODD. I am a teacher in Texas, certified to teach EC-6, as well as Special Education EC-12. Just have a few questions if someone can help.
1. If you are certified in your state, are there any other exams that need to be taken to qualify per DODD?
2. I keep hearing about job fairs with the DODD to meet potential candidates but even after performing a deep dive on the website , I do not see where or when they are held.
3. If I am selected for a position to teach on a base overseas, can my children attend the same school?
4, Any additional advice for the novice candidate beginning the process of applying?
1. I did not need to to anything additional regarding certification. I just uploaded my SBEC record and it was accepted. 2. I did not attend a job fair. After I applied and was found qualified, I received referrals to 2 different schools I emailed the principals and welcomed an interview and included the referral list number that was emailed to me. I received interviews on both and was selected a few days later. I never found any job fair dates either. 3. I was told that if I had Elementary age kids, then they could attend the school. Maybe someone overseas can give you more info on that. 4. Advice: Be patient and keep all of your email and originals.
1-DoDEA does not have any exams. Certification is based mainly on having the required college credits, state licensing etc.
2-DoDEA discontinued the job fairs 5 years ago. I think I attended the last one.
3- Yes in most situations.
4- Do your best to maximize your certification areas. If your state allows to add certs through testing then you generally only need half of the usually required credit hours for DoDEA qualification.
hahaIt shouldn't, depending on the details. In general, bad credit even for the teaching candidate doesn't seem to mean automatic rejection (although defaulted student loans held by the gov't, IRS issues could be problematic to some degree).
I have a scheduled interview from W. T. Sampson School. I checked the internet and get different answers for the telephone prefix code. From Alaska, one dials 011 to access the international telephone circuits. What does one dial from Guantanamo Bay to access the international telephone circuits?
Dr. Ali FantAfter a 30 minute delay due to a telephone dialing problem from Cuba, I started trying different numbers and prefix codes. Finally, an email came through giving the number to call Guantanamo Bay. The telephone circuits in Guantanamo Bay are defined as being in Virginia with a 757 US area code..
How is everyone doing that is new to dodea and has already arrived on post? What are some things that you find are wonderful and what do you find is difficult? For me, I'm used to a much more challenging curriculum and more organized system.... But the resources and low class sizes have been amazing!
Where have other turned in their Form 5013 - verification of employment? It looks like we can upload it to the EAS, but the instructions direct the person completing the form to send it back to me in a sealed envelope, suggestion I then need to mail it to somebody. Any suggestions much appreciated!
Pardon if these questions have been asked, do I put everything in boxes? or do the movers? Is furniture boxed or unboxed? Any moving related info would be appreciated. TIA
We had a cat so we didn't want to leave her in a pet center too long, but it would have saved a lot of money if we would have stayed in the hotel until our UB made it here.
If you are in Japan or Korea, what is the US military response to North Korea? Things seem so unstable, but I'm wondering what the feel is from the inside. Thinking of applying for a few jobs on USAjobs and just curious how the threat of NK is being perceived. Thanks!
Dr. Ali FantI am in China teaching ESL. "Global Times" (the official government newspaper) said that if US first strikes North Korea, China will come to North Korea's defense. However, if North Korea attacks US territory first, then China will declare itself neutral.
Hello! I will be interviewing for a teaching position in Cuba next week. Has anyone taught in Cuba? What is life like there? Is it still a closed base? How is the housing? Are there opportunities for spouses to find jobs? Sorry for all the questions! Looking for any and all information. Thanks!
