I haven't received my orders yet and it's very likely that I may arrive late to my duty station. If that's the case, are we still paid for those days we miss since it's not our fault? Also, how do those missed days factor into absences?

haha My understanding is that you are only paid for days you work and/or after you report to your duty station.

Two months is very unusual. Once you receive your orders/report, things generally happen very quickly. Also, you can request a 3 month salary advance which is usally in your account with a week to two weeks.

haha You are not supposed to be able to but it is theoretically possible due to timing, human error etc. If you are happy with the offer on the table, I probably wouldn't hold out hoping for another offer to come through.

I hope this doesn't sound silly... are you allowed to have a mini-fridge in your classroom? The one I have konked out on me and I don't want to purchase a new one that I won't be able to take with me next year if I am hired.

haha It depends on the location, the principal etc. Many teachers do have them and it's not a problem.

Just received email request for a 0.5 ESL position at Fort Knox. How much salary can I expect based upon a 82K DoDDS salary qualification? What are typical requirements for the rest of the school day?

Everything is coming up quick. I fly out on Thursday! Today I sold my car, so I'll be UBERing till it's time. Tonight is the last night in my apartment... sniff. Tomorrow I'll be with my family till I leave on Thursday. I hope I don't forget to fill out anything paperwork wise.

HelpOthers I'm stationed at Yokota. We plan to move off base, but we need to wait until closer to the end of our dog's quarantine. I'm currently researching cars which are adorable and houses that will allow the dogs, are close to work, train stations, parks, at least 1400 sf, etc.

haha It would be great if it could be done before you start collecting paychecks but it's not a huge tragedy if it needs to wait until you get there. Once there and with an official email and better contacts things usually happen fairly quickly with payroll etc.

HelpOthers Agreed. You can put in a salary change with documentation and it can happen after the documentation is received. Don't let it stop you from getting to your duty station on time.

I have a job offer back in the states. I am home on summer leave. My question is can I resign from my teaching position? Will they still send my household items back. I believe they still owe me a move home?

haha Something like that. Either that, or plan ahead if you can and do not take RAT travel (either delay it a year or travel and pay for it yourself).

HelpOthers They will ship your goods back AFTER you fulfill your contract. Ordinarily this is 2 years. Therefore, if you have not completed two full years since you were hired or since you took Renewal Agreement Travel (RAT), you would be responsible either for paying for the RAT or the cost of shipping your goods back home.

Two days ago I interviewed and it went pretty good. Today I found out that my references are being checked! Does this seem I am being considered or do they check the references for all interviewees?

haha I don't believe they would do that for everyone interviewed. Generally it would mean you are at least in the top two if they are taking the time and have a good chance at receiving an offer (although don't jinx yourself by counting your chickens just yet).

Worldwide Educator Same thing happened for me last week and I got my tentative offer 2 days later. Just make sure that your references are responsive. 2 of my principals were still on vacay and I had to quickly come up with back ups. Good luck. I hope to see you there.
