Dog to Daegu

Is anyone else having a hard time figuring out pet travel to South Korea? I originally thought I would be able to take my 14 pound schnauzer in cabin with me however it seems that on my leg from seoul to Daegu they will not allow dogs. Is anyone running into this issue and if so how are you resolving it?

Icanread I don't really know anything about dogs on the plane... but there should be a train that goes from Seoul to Daegu. Can you take your pup on the train?

Just accepted a DODEA job stateside and was wondering how long is it after you start ...(say August) before you get your first check? Also Do you get paid twice monthly or once monthly? Thanks in advance!

We are headed to Seoul. We haven't moved from our house in a while and most of our "stuff" is really old. So our first instinct was to just get rid of it. What should be bought in the states and shipped vs. purchased when we arrive? For example, we need a new mattress, so should we go to the store here and get a new one to ship?

haha Try and inquire about the stores on your specific base. In Germany we bought new mattresses when we arrived (they had a good range of Sealy etc). They have the same selection here in Japan. Furniture is also available. We bought a nice leather set in Germany but many of the other offerings were not really to our liking (Ashley, etc).

i❤️slps There was a furniture store at Yongsan in Seoul when I was there in 2012-14. If it's not there anymore, the PX will sell furniture. My off-post housing was pretty large the last time I was there, but I only brought one bedroom of furniture with me. Teach DODEA tends to hire people with more than 2 years experience. There are teachers hired right out of school, but they are often special education teachers or others with certifications in high needs areas. You can be a CONUS hire even though your husband would still be active duty, but he cannot be on your orders and you will have to be sure only on...See More

Does anyone know what the housing situation is like in Germany (stuttgart area) Moreover what type of funding do you get for housing etc. Also thanks for the pay advice everyone I have started sending out the paperwork again.

haha Can't comment on Stuttgart specifically but in Germany in general you will have a lot of options. We had a very spacious "duplex" with a yard that looked out onto a field and then down into a valley/river that was more like a 4 story townhouse with another unit next door (but was so well built you never even heard anyone from the other unit). I met with with someone at the occupation clinic to review what ...See MoreI picked up everything we need for the dogs until 10 days prior to leaving and double checked with the Vet on post that said because I will have orders, they will do the USDA thing and gave me a list of what is needed (I was able to get all the documents from Banfield today).

I met with with someone at the occupation clinic to review what I need to bring to my appointment on Monday morning. The physical will take about two hours and I will have a follow-up to review the results on Thursday morning.

My son takes his driving test on Monday afternoon to get his license. He has been putting this off, but has been practicing driving when he can. He just hasn't needed it or been motivated to get a license, but agreed he needs to get it before we leave for Japan.

We all have appointments at the passport office on Tuesday. I met with the gentleman there on Thursday who guided me through what I need to bring with me. and said given my report date, I will travel on tourist passports and he will mail the official ones as soon as they arrive unless we are still here and can pick them up. He showed me the regulations that permit this based on report date and likelihood of official passports being ready. He said he has done this 9 times already for families going to Japan this summer.

The travel office is ready to help me schedule the flights and HHG, etc. as soon as I have orders.

Doctor's offices are not taking new patients for at least two weeks, so I called Minute Clinic who said they can do travel physicals for the rest of the family. I may have them do a sports physical for my daughter and updated mission physical for my son (I have paperwork for both). The only issue is they do not bill insurance for physicals, but I know from past experience, they will bill insurance for immunizations if needed.

I filled out the new employee packet someone sent me and once we have the physicals completed, I can e-mail everything and hope for orders.

I have not been told I need a background check. Some have needed it and some not who are already working for DoDEA. If I need that first, I may not make it by my report date, but I sure am trying. I don't want my pay or RAT to be messed up by arriving late.

Ida Might I ask how you were able to contact the travel office already? Is this something anyone can do with questions, or is it because you are already working on the base?

HelpOthers I live and work on Fort Knox. There is a passport office that shares the same waiting room with the travel office. Anyone can walk in and ask questions. :) If you can get on post (ID from the visitor's center) you can walk into the passport office or travel office. Yes, if you have one nearby, this seems to be the most efficient method.

Please send the link or e-mail a copy to me of the physical with items we actually need marked. I am not getting response from anyone at HR right now. I think many are on leave, but my report date is August 1st and I am trying to report on time.

If I use 10 point va preference CONUS, can I use it when applying to OCONUS later on. If NO please tell me why? TIA

haha I have heard/read (don't have the regulation) that you can only use the vet preference once when applying for federal positions. I don't know this for certain or the exact details but I would suppose that with DoDEA covering CONUS and OCONUS schools you can only claim it once.
