Has anyone been cleared to teach for DoDDS and offered the position on a LOSS (line of sight supervision) because they are not yet finished with your background check? Is this something of the normal per COVID-19? I understand that the background checks are taking a bit longer than usual, but is this something to worry about. I have been teaching 22 years and have no shady crap in my background. This really makes me feel like a criminal. Lol
wandererThat's what I went to Germany on in fall 2016 when the background checks were first handed over to a contractor or something and the process took 2 months when before I made it to Japan in like two weeks. My principal didn't actually have me teach line of sight (instead it was normal) and I'm not sure exactly when the LOSS was lifted....if ever.
CookieThank you for your response. Have you received notices of 'non-selection' through USA Jobs before? I'm just wondering if it's even viable since USA Jobs seems to be very hit or miss.
FrankDoes anyone know the best email to get your EAS application unlocked/unfrozen? I emailed the one from the "contact us" tab on the eas website usarmy.ria.chra-nc.mbx.dodea-eas-applicant-inquiries@mail.mil but it's been over a week and I haven't heard anything back. Does anyone have a different email for them? Thanks.

I understand that I would have to prove how much of her expenses I cover and so on, but was a bit confused on a few details:
1. How do I communicate to DoDEA that my mother is my dependent? Is this during the tentative/firm offer phase? What sort of evidence would I need to submit? Just want to make sure she is included in my orders.
2. How does sponsorship work with DoDEA? I'm assuming it's dependent on where I'm hired, but do they typically reach out to you, or are you given a point of contact? Is it the base offering sponsorship or is it a DoDEA teacher/Principal/etc?
Thanks again for any input, this board is so helpful for DoDEA-hopefuls like me. :)

1. Would it improve my chances to be hired if I just applied as a local hire?
2. Should I apply as a CONUS hire and just put Germany?
3. When do principals start seriously look at hiring for the next school year?
beachgirl130haha--I was hoping your might respond since you are the master on this site! I've been following DoDEA Teacher-net since my spouse applied and your insight and experience is truly appreciated! I will definitely heed this information as I move forward with my application. Thank you so much!!!
DoDEA Americas will credit up to 5 years and everyone starts on Step 0, so Step 5 is the highest you could start on (but the salary scale is a little better stateside).
No e-mail to update our apps yet. Should I go on and change my school year consideration to 21-22 or just wait for the e-mail? I saw on Facebook that someone just got a referral.
It's time to update your Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) application in the Employment Application System (EAS) for School Year (SY) 2021/2022. Everyone is required to update ONLINE, no matter how recently your application was submitted. Please complete your annual update by March 23, 2021. Candidates that update after March 23, 2021 may miss consideration for current vacancies. When updating your application, please do not forget to change the year of consideration to SY 2021/2022 and update your availability date. If you have questions regarding your application, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page within EAS.
You may establish security questions that will be used if you need to reset your EAS password. To setup your security questions, log into your application and select "Edit Profile", then select "Set Password reset Questions".
You must ensure all aspects of your application are true, up-to-date and reflects your ability, experience, and training as accurately as possible.
Changes to the EAS application for SY 2021/2022:
• On the Personal Information screen of the application, applicants must respond to a question regarding (temporary or permanent) residency in another country. • Local applicants residing in the overseas area can apply for consideration for the Virtual School Hub in the area in which they are currently residing by clicking on the Virtual School tab on the "Target Location and Availability Date" screen.
If you are a local applicant residing in the overseas area, you must attach a copy of your sponsor's orders to your EAS application. The orders should be labeled under Military Spouse Preference.
Worldwide applicants that wish to be considered for overseas positions must choose every country where they are willing to work. If an opening becomes available for a location that you have not selected, you will not be considered for that opening.
There is no longer a deadline date for applicants to update or apply to be considered for the upcoming school year. Applicants will not receive consideration until their application is active and complete.
Current/Former DoDEA employees, please ensure that you obtain and upload a DoDEA 5011 Professional Evaluation from your current or last former DoDEA principal/supervisor to your EAS application.
The hiring timeline for SY 2021/2022 will begin immediately and run through the end of August. Educators that are not selected for SY 2021/2022 will be invited to update their application next winter for consideration for SY 2022/2023.
Thank you for your continued interest in teaching with DoDEA.
I realize how competitive these jobs are and I am highly limited in only applying to one location. However, I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into the teaching landscape in Ankara? I'm trying to figure out how much a long shot this actually is!! Any feedback would be welcome!
Joe WachsNot sure if you will be traveling to Turkey with your partner or not. But do be aware that their are different rules for someone who is hired from Stateside vs. someone who is a "local hire"
Therefore, if you are able to accompany your spouse as a dependent, you could by a very strong applicant.
For now, that would be the only location indicated on your application. Once you have orders showing yourself as a dependent (if this is possible), you can apply as a local hire.
