Got a tentative offer today from HR for stateside. How long does it take to get EQIP email and fingerprints completed? I do not want to resign from current position until I have a hard offer.
SandArtIt is different for everyone, but for me it took about 3 weeks from the tentative to EQIP. From tentative to firm offer it was about 6 weeks, but I have read on this site that some people have had very short wait times. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones. :-)
I would say bring enough personal items/belongings to make it feel at least a little like home. Also, get some input from people on the ground in Osan about things like appliances etc in furnished apartments. You may end up having to buy things like TVs, coffee makers etc because they are not supplied or if you are particular about things like that. Ask on the FB if you have already.

Personally, I found my friendships with colleagues much closer in Asia than in Europe and I would rather be in Asia because I absolutely adored the culture. I would NEVER want to live on base. It's hard enough to become competent in the local language and culture working in English and surrounded by Americans all day, but if you live there, too…I think you are doomed. Some considerations regarding shipping: the good thing about traveling light is that you can do a self-move easily if you find greener pastures. Sometimes wonderful housing becomes available at odd times that only people with a light load can jump on. I also think that within-district transfer opportunities are easier to accept. The base "temporary" furniture is utilitarian but meets your needs and you will find tempting local furniture that you will want to adopt. If you have a high school son or daughter who is going to be going to a stateside college in the next few years, they have an adequate weight allowance to ship their stuff back across the Pacific (was it 350 pounds?) but there are size limitations of what they can bring—nothing bigger than a smallish TV, for example. So if they have big things that they will want at college, leave them in your HOR. Also remember that you can have more shipped from your HOR on your RAT years so you can bring things over later if you really miss them. (I don't know how frequent RAT is at Osan) Remember that the move is one way until you transfer or quit. BUT: if you are going to rent your stateside HOR out or if you are going to do major renovations, it's easiest if you empty your house out and ship everything. You could be missing a lot of income leaving your house unoccupied. Good luck and congratulations!
Does anyone know what type of results would have the offer recinded other than the obvious law breakage? My biggest concern is I have crappy credit because I havent had enough income to make ends meet with my current positions salary. That and I was self employed previously and really have no way they can verify it other than tax returns.
Depending on the type of loan, who holds the agreement etc. it may or may not end up being an issue for you being hired. We had past student loan defaults but had managed to consolidate, rehabilitate and make at least a few current payments by the time we were applying.
So I just got it yesterday via email and when I print it out, the copies look like crap. Is this normal? Like it's a PDF of centuries-old xerox copies?
Does anybody know if there are any open kindergarten positions? I'm finishing up the credits I need to be certified for early childhood education, hoping it will increase my chance of a job.
IcanreadThanks! I will have preschool certification too (included in the ECE cert). I am also elementary certified, FLES (Spanish), and a reading specialist (elem and middle school). Just adding another cert on to hopefully get some referrals/interviews!
I made a referral list for an ISS position in Brussels. I have still not heard back from the point of contact in Japan for the position I interviewed for back in May.
HelpOthersYes, haha, the Superintendent isDr. Steven Bloom and he was on the interview panel during my interview last year. However, the Community Superintendent (Yokosuka and Sasebo Complexes) is Ms. Laverne Outen and she is the one who was on the interview panel this time.
Did any one else have issues getting the audiology component of medical eval done? Are my docs making it a bigger deal than it should be? I can't do walk I audiology screening because that's for active duty but the next appointment is mid August. How did you get that part done?
oregonslpI had a fellow SLP in my school district do the hearing portion. We all have access to audiometers and are trained to use them. My HR person confirmed this was okay.
