I looked into a storage box, and they're over $100 a year. If we're gone 10 years, which is the plan, that's $1,000+.
Anyone know if we can put them in military storage and/or bring them with us?

angel---the transportation office should be able to let you know about swords. There are tight restrictions on knives/swords in Japan, so you may want to consider finding a place to store items like that just in case you cannot take them.

Thank you. Based on what has been said previously (things deteriorating), I don't want to use storage for anything. Planning on taking everything with me (not car, selling it). Just not sure about the swords and trophies that I have.

I am wondering the same thing. We would have to travel several hundred miles by plane or ferry to get to a base. Is meeting in person just one option and making the plans by telephone another option? We were able to do everything via phone, email and website (and had bases within an hour's drive of us).

I registered at the site you mentioned, but what forms? Are you talking about the links in the upper left hand corner when the top screen says electronic transportation acquisition? Or Defense Travel System?

There are definitely mixed opinions about whether taking a DoDEA stateside job gives you an advantage if your ultimate goal is DoDEA overseas. You would think (and many people do) that being in the system, building up some useful contacts etc would be a good reason to take a stateside job. I'm sure in some cases it does help some people.
