Teachangel---the transportation office should be able to let you know about swords. There are tight restrictions on knives/swords in Japan, so you may want to consider finding a place to store items like that just in case you cannot take them.
angelThank you. Based on what has been said previously (things deteriorating), I don't want to use storage for anything. Planning on taking everything with me (not car, selling it). Just not sure about the swords and trophies that I have.

As for travel, we were put on the Patriot Express flight for August 3rd, so we'll be flying from Seattle to Yokota.
We had to purchase our ticket to Seattle and were told it would be part of the reimbursement, along with any baggage fees.
I figured I'd keep everyone up to date since I know I feel like I'm just blindly moving forward!
Here's the general outline of my questions/concerns:
• I've just graduated with my secondary science teaching degree so if I am fortunate enough to land a job, it'll be as a first-year teacher
• I applied on the DoDEA portal but it was kicked back until I guess my degree if formally conferred on my transcripts
• Is it too late to realistically hope for a teaching position in the fall? I'll still submit for re-evaluation once I have my paperwork from my school, but is there actually a chance of getting hired still?
• Would it be in my interest to contact somebody in either HR or the Stuttgart community administration about my situation (i.e. a hopeful first-year teacher that would be a local hire and is just waiting on paperwork)?
Thank you in advance for both reading my obnoxious wall of text and your responses!
One follow-up question: when I was on active duty in Korea, I was able to make a decent side-gig out of "tutoring" Korean college students in English (basically just meeting them at a coffee shop and letting them practice conversational English). Do similar opportunities exist in Germany or is that not really something I should expect to find in Stuttgart?
TeachIt does not show on your application. I can still access my application although I received an email that it was inactive on April 23 (and have been hired for a position).
I bounced a check in 2003, and the local grocery store issued a warrant for my arrest (it was $14!) and subsequently I had to pay a huge fine. It now appears as "fraud" on my background checks.
Will this keep me from getting an offer from DODEA?
BentobethUnfortunately, I was 20 and had recently left my abusive husband and did NOT get the notification that it bounced until I got a call from the Sheriff! Yikes.

I told them I was supposed to get orders this week, so I was just looking for a rough estimate as my lease is up at the end of this month.
They were incredibly helpful and told me that it's looking like the current wait time is three week and that I could pre-fill the forms on move.mil.
I guess I'll be extending my lease by half a month, but it was good to get some sort of estimate to plan by!
SandArtI registered at the site you mentioned, but what forms? Are you talking about the links in the upper left hand corner when the top screen says electronic transportation acquisition? Or Defense Travel System?
I guess I could wait for directions when the orders come. Maybe I will call my local base.
In this window, there are tabs across the top. You will click on the one that says "Self Counseling." There will be a bar on the left side that starts with "Customer Profile." Start there and work your way through.
The comments they included in the e-mail regarding the system are below:
Some bases have you fill out the pack out application on-line. Some points to know: For military purposes your grade is GS-9. For branch of service, select the branch of the base you are being assigned. For "Is PPB&E authorized", select "No".
Hopefully that helps and gives you a chance to get some of the basics done!
Got a note from HR asking if I would consider a state-side position. Unfortunately, the position is part-time. Obvious that DoDEA is a different animal but does anyone out there see an upside to taking a part-time position? In public schools, this would be getting your "foot in the door" but not sure it works that way with this crew.
...See MoreThere are definitely mixed opinions about whether taking a DoDEA stateside job gives you an advantage if your ultimate goal is DoDEA overseas. You would think (and many people do) that being in the system, building up some useful contacts etc would be a good reason to take a stateside job. I'm sure in some cases it does help some people.
Other people with DoDEA find themselves passed over for referrals, interviews and offers for candidates with no DoDEA affiliation and question whether there is an advantage. Someone posted that as an "internal" candidate any veterans preference would be nullified, which could be a disadvantage if you have that background.
I would say the same arguments (for and against) would apply to a .5 position with stateside DoDEA with the added disadvantage of being paid half of a full time teacher. If you are relatively happy with your current school and location it's probably not worth the upheaval and potential pay cut. If you are looking for a change, are currently not working or are willing to roll the dice to take some step towards a dream of teaching with DoDEA overseas then it's worth considering (IMHO FWIW).
ScholarPart time work with dodea does not count towards experience/steps. I don't know if tht would be bothersome to you. I know nothing about the stateside component though
I cannot find the transfer list from this year. I am curious as to what was being filled and cannot find a search here or the list on DODEA. I know they take it down after the transfer rounds are over....
