If you don't have a sponsor, contact your school. The sponsor can give you an idea of what's normally done, how to do it, and the process particular to the school you're going to.
Some schools have a "committee" that handles all of this - from lodging to getting you a post box to putting together a basket of local treats and lodging essentials and transportation from the airport.
I know everyone gets paperwork differently, but we are getting really confused. My husband got his tentative offer on Thursday, June 1. The next day he got all the paperwork for the on the processing checklist. Today, we got an email with the procedure for getting the official passport. We have had no word from the security office and were told to contact our HR person by Wednesday if we haven't heard. Does this seem like the normal order? Are we getting ahead of ourselves trying to rent out our house and telling our family we are going? Stress!!
I got my tentative offer on March 31st, my passport paperwork on April 4th, and I didn't get my background check paperwork until a week later on April 7th. I got my firm offer and the in-processing paperwork on May 25th, after I passed the background check. I really think you got all the in-processing stuff early, but I think it's to speed up getting orders, etc.
I think you can still work on all the prep stuff like renting out your house and telling your family. The background check isn't bad, just takes a little bit. Definitely reach out to HR though if you haven't gotten the info by Wednesday.
SandArtVery smart, Bett. I wish I had started before I got the forms. I got the forms exactly 2 weeks ago. I am sending them back tomorrow. However, if I had known some of the stuff sooner, I could have sent them back the same week.
SandArtCongratulations! I have read that some people here got the firm offer within a couple of weeks, but the time from tentative to firm offer for me was almost 6 weeks.
Nana BMy new principal was adamant that she hear from my current admin. She wouldn't make the tentative offer until she was able to read and email or hear from her.
I don't know who is speaking to whom at times and I keep reading conversations that I have already read it does not seem to me that it used to be that confusing a while back.
anotherteacherThanks all! Should I call general HR or should I call specifically to Europe's HR since both are European positions. Could someone provide me with the number for HR since they haven't been very good at responding to my e-mails? Thanks!

I just realized our daughter's passport expired in April. Should I take it and rush for a new one or do we have time for regular processing if we tell them we renewed. Can't believe I missed that this Spring.
ScholarEach passport location can give you an estimate. Ours took only 2 weeks although I think they say estimate 6weeks. You will travel on your official passport so the travel one isn't necessary until you take your first vacation.
HelpOthersPersonally, I would go ahead and renew it and expedite it to make sure you get it back in three weeks. However, Scholar is correct. You will use the official passport to travel to your new country.
So, with two dogs, would it be cheaper to fly to Seattle and catch the Patriot Express from there directly to Yokota, Japan? Which airlines would charge least for the dogs to fly within US to get to Seattle? It would take us a week to drive to Seattle, which could be another option (or train?).
