So, I just received two referrals to schools in Germany; no further info yet. I am hopeful I will at least get an interview. I am surprised that I am getting this close to the end of the school year, but I am not complaining. I am curious if and when you get a contract this late in the year, does it extend to the following school year as well?
Most of the interviews I have had with DoDDS were the same 7 questions (e.g. Why DoDDS?, Tell me about a successful lesson you did with planning, differentiation, assessment, Tell me about a time you had a challenging situation and how you dealt with it, Tell me etc). Even when I flew to DC for the Job Fair type interviews they used to do, it was the same 7 questions. When I interviewed with a principal for my first DoDDS position 3 months later, he asked me the same 7 questions. I often wondered if he had even read my original answers or whether he was checking to see if my answers had changed.
I did have one SPED interview where they asked me about my experiences with an age/disability group specific to their school and how I would deal with certain situations. For SPED, try and talk up your flexibility and training/experience with a wide range of student abilities, success in collaborating with other teachers, supporting students for success, using data to inform your teaching, etc. Most SPED positions will be resource room type positions with some push in support so supporting students to achieve success with grade level content/standards will be important. BUT, make sure you are tailoring your answers to the specific position at that school.
1. Tell us about your background 2. Standards (Something about how you use standards) 3. Typical day in your class 4. How you use formatives and summatives 5. Your experience with PLCs 6. Whole Language approach 12. Something about team planning 13. How do you use data 14. What does a lesson plan look like
Finished a five question interview. I did know the position was for Science and Mathematics and was for the rest of SY2018-19. Q1. How do I regularly communicate with parents?; Q2. How do I spend the first few days in class?; Q3. Give an example of how I teach a lesson?; Q4. How do I handle unexpected situations in the school?; Q5. Describe how I handled an major change in the school environment. May 26Like(3)report post Can't remember if you said you were SPED but if so, you also might want to talk about how you can offer enrichment and intervention strategies to help students address skill deficits while also supporting students to achieve grade level standards/benchmarks. Success/experience with Common Core could also be helpful. And as above, they are big on using data to improve/target your teaching. How do I regularly communicate with parents?

It's time to update your Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) application in the Employment Application System (EAS) for School Year (SY) 2024/2025. Everyone is required to update ONLINE, no matter how recently your application was submitted. Please complete your annual update by 11:00pm CST on January 28th, 2024. Recruitment for the 24/25 SY will begin January 29th, 2024, however, your application will not receive consideration until your update is complete. Once your application is updated/finalized you will begin receiving consideration for future vacancies.
When updating your application, please do not forget to change the year of consideration to SY 2024/2025 and update your availability date in the Target Location and Date (Overseas/Stateside) section of your application.
You must ensure all aspects of your application are true, up-to-date and reflects your ability, experience, and training as accurately as possible. All 9 sections must be updated. Once you have reviewed each section, click "submit". A green check mark will appear next to the section to confirm it has been successfully submitted. A green check mark will also appear next to "Finalize your application" to confirm that your application has been finalized. Applications must be complete and finalized to receive consideration.
**Before submitting, be sure to update the School Year to 2024/2025 to be considered**
If you have questions regarding your application, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page within EAS.
If you are a local applicant residing in the overseas area on sponsors orders (Military or Civilian), you must attach a copy of your sponsor's orders to your EAS application. The orders should be labeled under Military Spouse Preference.
Worldwide applicants that wish to be considered for overseas positions must choose every country where they are willing to work. If an opening becomes available for a location that you have not selected, you will not be considered for that opening.
Applicants must provide at least 3 evaluations. If you are a Current/Former DoDEA employee, please ensure that you obtain and upload a DoDEA 5011 Professional Evaluation from your current or last former DoDEA principal/supervisor to your EAS application.
If interested in 0090 Pre-Kindergarten and previously found not qualified, please review updated qualifications below and mark the teaching category as 're-evaluate'.

I am filling out a DoDEA application for teaching and I'm filling out the work experience section. It states that your salary is determined by your years of related experience (I'm assuming this is teaching experience) and education level.
It also says, that if you feel that you should be credited for external experience to fill out form DoDEA Form 5013.
A) What is "external experience"? Is this experience not related to teaching? It wasn't clear to me.
B) More importantly, do we need to fill out this Form 5013 for every school or work experience entry in order to get credited for years of experience? Do you not just get credited years of experience based on your work history?
Basically, I'm just trying to figure out will I be credited for my years of experience via what I list in my work experience section, or if I need to submit one of these forms for each of my employers to be credited for my years of experience.
What is the probationary period for new Dodea teachers? Has it changed recently to one year? If so, when did that take effect? Do veterans have a shorter probation?
Is a there a current DoDEA Teacher Class Lesson Plan requirement we are supposed to use? My principal is new to DoDEA school this year and I don't want to give any ideas to increase my workload by paperwork that will be filed away and never read by any human.

When there was a transfer round, you could see the number of positions open for transfers every year and then extrapolate that those transfers would leave that approximate number of holes to be filled by new hires (plus retirements, PCS moves, etc).
I agree that there are fewer students and fewer overall teaching positions. Does it necessarily follow that the actual yearly turnover from retirements, PSC moves etc. is significantly less? Maybe. But since none of us have the numbers, you could make a case that it is less, but not necessarily drastically less.
What do the two letter codes mean in Block 10 of one's SF 50? DoDEA has me at "CG" - Corporate Grade. The Kunsan job requires a "GG" code as one of two Eligibilities I qualify for on the job application. The job was only open for two days -- the shortest I have seen in all my federal employments. I made the deadline and am waiting for the review to see if I understood all the eligibility questions.

Other "rehired-retired" teachers at my school receive their SS Pension and their FERS Pension -- both of which increase every year as present inflated salaries replace lower salaries in previous years.
In October, the base conducted their second NEO (Non-combatant Evacuation Order) in many a year. Then we have the semi-regular NK missile launches over Japan. Then the National US Emergency Broadcast 10/4 (which activated for my friends' smartphones in South America -- but not on US smartphones in Japan). The Gaza invasion of Israel and multiple nations declaring their allegiances with several nations legally declaring war.
The result has been teachers preparing to leave for stateside and DoDEA openings being announced. Teachers' written intentions to leave or stay are due now. This is a really good time to be in the DoDEA EAS system and have your USAJOBS application ready to send upon receiving a daily Job Agent email from USAJOBS. True, the USAJOBS application will point you to the DoDEA EAS system, but as my current DoDEA job proves, I was direct hired without even an interview. Sometimes the USG is desperate to fill positions.
