It's pretty common to get the advance since moving is expensive (think shower curtains, trash cans, etc. ) Those things add up quickly and the advance pay is interest free. My experience with rent is in Italy. We paid 2 months rent cash before stepping foot in the house.

Most of the moving in expenses (1st, last, fees, etc) will be covered by LQA in most locations. You likely would have to front the money and then be reimbursed in a few weeks when LQA kicks in.

The medical exam comes after the firm offer in a big pile of paperwork.
I am not positive on the fingerprints, it seems like it is moving pretty slow for people. I was lucky and did my prints at HQ so i eliminated some of the wait time.

It can be helpful to have all the information by your side as you fill out the E-QIP especially if you have lived at several different addresses in the past 10 years or have friends who are not US citizens.

I have been living in the same spot for 15 years, so it was not bad for my addresses. However, it took a very long time anyway. Guess I am slow.

Just wondering how long between interview and offer did everyone wait?
I had an interview April 7th for a sped job at GITMO
But still no word
I know they sent my administration reference forms and they all completed them and returned quickly
I'm in that yucky holding pattern now

angel, I completely understand! I don't have an offer but after a month I finally got that one email and haven't gotten word back since. It was really hard for me because I felt the school was a best fit for both of us (me and the admin) and when I hung up I immediately told my family. then a wait... I hope you get your dream job offer soon!

I received an interview request about 2 hours after my comment. It's at my top country (Japan) but not my top location. I really want the one I already interviewed for already.

Unfortunately they are generally considered to be not particularly useful positions for the money that is spent on them. Very few seem to actually be very productive or do much beyond send out the odd email about "useful and interesting websites".

I did... I had to email HR and she asked me to email the documents directly to her. When she looked at my account, she could see where I uploaded them (twelve times) and asked me to stop trying to upload them, lol. There is a file size limit so take note of that.

Try to reduce the file size if you can. Copying them in black and white, and reducing the size electronically might help, but if you have lots of transcripts, you may need to fax them and have HR add them as SpedTeacher74 suggested.

Four things might happen. 1: You might not receive a call or request at all (the worst one) 2: You receive a random call and the interview happens then 3: You receive a random call to set up an interview 4: You receive an interview request by email

It;s true that until the other benefits are officially approved it's not a done deal. But, if you are not already in the commuting area of the school where the offer is, and you can prove you were recruited from CONUS with similar benefits, you have a good shot of it working it out.

Your dog needs a rabies antibody test, also called FAVN. Not sure what that means. The 180 days starts on the day they start that test. We got a new rabies shot because the lady one was 2-3 years ago. For us: rabies shot 1 on 4/20; rabies shot 2 & antibodies test May 22nd. Our 180 days starts then. To be safe, we had the new chip added to our dog when they did the 2nd rabies and the FAVN. He has both chips, but at least the new chip and old chip numbers are on the paperwork, so hopefully that will negate any concerns. Petsmart uses HomeAgain which is the correct chip.
