hahaI don't believe any travel would be deductible unless it was a required work expense (and those would likely be paid for/reimbursable by DoDDS and so not deductable).
HelpOthersRenewal Agreement Travel (RAT) in one year locations is every summer and for two year locations would be every two years. However, I think if you are transferring or think you will transfer, RAT can be impacted, so I would follow the link included by tech_ed
"The course description presented would be creditable across several of DoDEA's special education categories. For example, (0420/1/2) mildly to moderately, (0423/4/5) moderately to severely learning disabilities, (0416/17/18) severe/multiple disabilities, and (0426/7/8) emotionally impaired teaching categories. Be sure to upload the course description to your EAS application in File Attachments for any analyst to review to support an assigned rating in your elected Target Jobs."
I signed up immediately. This will allow me two possibly three more certification areas with only one class... (The class is Educational Procedures for the Mentally Handicapped).
p.s. thanks Teach for the info on University of Laverne...great deal....
I was just reading a post about Laverne college being a great resource online, but someone posted another college where they got both their bachelor's and master's degree. Can't remember the name.
I have both a bachelor's and master's already, but my husband is considering finishing a degree while we're in Japan next year since he does not have a job. He has a police retirement, but he's only 43. It think it would be interesting for him to finish his teaching degree. Police can retire too early! He retired at 42, and will be losing his job in our home state when we leave. He needs something to do or he will drive me nuts.
I'm getting my masters in Instructional Technology, which ironically is fairly light on the tech courses. So I won't meet the DODEA requirements for the Educational Technologist position.
Anyone have reccs for somewhere to take courses in web/graphics design, programming, multimedia, etc.?

I have literally been stalked by Germany this year for some reason- 3 interviews, 1 I missed from not being able to access voicemail in Spain, and a 5th request for an interview by phone from a principal this morning. I had my interview for the position I was offered back at the end of March, and then 2 more interviews shortly after. I received the offer from the initial position I applied this past Tuesday, so for me it took a month to receive the tentative offer. I was contacted for interviews both by phone and by email- each place was different. Some would ask when I was available and work around it, and others would pick a time and ask me to interview then. I assumed I was selected for the first position, because a person from HR started contacting me suddenly asking me to complete some more forms as quickly as I could. She has been extremely easy to contact and very helpful. I just spoke with her earlier today about the call I received about an interview this morning, and she realized that she hadn't made my account inactive yet, so if you are offered the job, your account won't necessarily go inactive prior to being offered the position (or even 2 days after and you may end up on more referral lists until it is taken care of.) The principal this morning said he had a halftime position for my husband as well, so I asked HR about that- they said that because I had been selected and accepted the job at the first place I was interviewed, that it was my only option and I could not switch at this point- it was either take it or decline and be taken out of the pool until the following year. She even mentioned that you could be processed and literally 48 hours from boarding the plane and turn around and decline and there was nothing they could do to force you to work. My husband is still eligible as a CONUS hire up until we set foot in Germany, then he would be a local hire. I was contacted about getting passports for myself and dependents the day after I received the offer, even though I hadn't sent in the acceptance/declination form yet. If you are selected, there will be a specific HR person assigned to your 'case' and they will be your fileholder, and in my case, she has been excellent at answering phone calls and responding to emails in a timely manner. Another thing I discovered- although you can choose part time or full time on your application, CONUS hires are only for FULL TIME- but local hires can be anything. That explains why I was active in the system for a few years, but only this year started getting inundated with interview requests because I had only selected part-time. There seems to be quite a few SLP openings this year- any other SLPs on here?
Redclover711I left the civilian grade part incomplete because my teacher pay listed on the tentative did not have my verification of experience forms included yet and I did not have an updated pay grade yet. Nothing was mentioned and she said she received it just fine and was hand walking it to state the next day.
The GS 11 equivalent is actually for the General Schedule salary scale which covers most gov't employees. It's kind of confusing in that they never seem to tell us to use a higher equivalent as our steps increase (at least that I've seen). The terminology for teachers is something like TP 1701 CD 12 (with the 12 being changed according to the step you are currently on).
