Anyone working or have information on Tech Ed programs in DODEA schools, especially middle schools? Are they digital or traditional? Well supported with supplies and tools? Rotational or elective? What are the sizes of specialists classes in DODEA schools? How often do job openings come up?
HelpOthersI believe that most principals receive a list of 10 or so and that the people who show up on this list are ranked based on number of certifications and vet preference first, so if an applicant has only one area of certification and no preference, they may not be seen.
hahaMy understanding is that it varies. I have heard of lists of 1, 6 etc when there are limited numbers of applicants with all of the required qualifications.
The most I have heard of on a list is 25 but I have no idea how common that is.
The Teacher Transfer/Relocation FB page is specifically for DoDEA teachers who are being transferred. I am avoiding including the link here, because it managed to create a never ending loop when I added it earlier. I am hopeful the administrators will delete my earlier post. This is a different page from the DoDDS Teachers FB page.
There is a Teacher Transfer Relocation FB page designed specifically for the discussion of what to do when transferring to a new area, people selling their cars, etc. It is also for DoDDS teachers. https://www.facebook.com/groups/670741089719553/

My husband has a 10-point veterans preference status and just got qualified for K-6. I was wondering what the chances of getting a position for the 2017/18 school year would be? We are expecting baby #3 in June and a DoDEA teaching position would relieve so much financial stress lol. Just wondering if I should keep my hopes up or not.
kgteachHello teacher's spouse! I totally think that your husband has a change of getting hired this year. It doesn't hurt to apply. I applied with only 2 years experience and certification in grades k-6. I landed two interviews and got a job as a kindergarten teacher stateside!
HelpOthersAny news? I have heard that teachers there stay in a US chain hotel and use LQA to pay for it, get breakfast and pool, then have the hotel points to use during RAT.
masterscandidate2016Mary-Lorraine, I haven't heard back yet... I'm going to call HR on Monday to see if it's been filled. I haven't heard about using LQA for hotels, but you can use TQSA to rack up points for yearly RAT.
I'm going to Europe this May. Are principals open to meeting an applicant or would that be a big mistake? Just a thought - since I will be there anyway.
hahaUnless you were saying that you were relocating and would be a local hire candidate with access to base, then that would be totally fine/appropriate.
When is the first pay period for the new school year with the 2017 salary? I read somewhere that teachers new to DoDEA are paid 21 paychecks instead of 26? Why is this, and will the 21 paychecks still total our yearly salary?
HelpOthersThe $150 per paycheck for medical insurance is based on bi-weekly payments (26 paychecks), so it should be higher payments on 21 paychecks to make up for not paying it during the summer. The total for the year would be the same.
I'm looking to add a drama certification, and I'm pretty close to completion. Does anyone know of an online university that offers these classes (that's hopefully cheap :)?
HelpOthersMany people use University of San Diego. Also, Liberty University. I believe they both offer discounts to military connected including civilians if this fits you.
