I believe that most principals receive a list of 10 or so and that the people who show up on this list are ranked based on number of certifications and vet preference first, so if an applicant has only one area of certification and no preference, they may not be seen.

My understanding is that it varies. I have heard of lists of 1, 6 etc when there are limited numbers of applicants with all of the required qualifications.
The most I have heard of on a list is 25 but I have no idea how common that is.

Let me rephrase may earlier comment. In many areas, you are permitted to live on post/base, but you pay for it instead of having that as a benefit. Hello teacher's spouse! I totally think that your husband has a change of getting hired this year. It doesn't hurt to apply. I applied with only 2 years experience and certification in grades k-6. I landed two interviews and got a job as a kindergarten teacher stateside!

Any news? I have heard that teachers there stay in a US chain hotel and use LQA to pay for it, get breakfast and pool, then have the hotel points to use during RAT.

Mary-Lorraine, I haven't heard back yet... I'm going to call HR on Monday to see if it's been filled. I haven't heard about using LQA for hotels, but you can use TQSA to rack up points for yearly RAT.

Unless you were saying that you were relocating and would be a local hire candidate with access to base, then that would be totally fine/appropriate.

One advantage to phone interviews, is they do not know what you look like. This could make hiring less prejudicial.

On the insurance topic - I know that some bases are already doing this, but they are moving to all prepay/reimbursement for civilians.

The $150 per paycheck for medical insurance is based on bi-weekly payments (26 paychecks), so it should be higher payments on 21 paychecks to make up for not paying it during the summer. The total for the year would be the same.

Many people use University of San Diego. Also, Liberty University. I believe they both offer discounts to military connected including civilians if this fits you.
