Should I just take a good jo...See MoreHi all. Just looking for some advice from experienced DOD'ers: we really want the DOD. This is our only year to do it. I'm elementary music only. We want stateside.
Unfortunately, we have to move somewhere this year. And we'd like this to be our last move. And jobs have started calling for interviews.
Should I just take a good job somewhere? Are my chances for a full time elementary stateside job pretty slim?
TeachWhile there is expected to be some hiring of specials area teachers at the elementary level in DDESS, there have been folks that have been cut down to part-time over the past few years who would probably have first dibs at those positions.
SpedTeacher74I have a friend of a friend who is there now. She likes it fine for herself and says her son loves the school there but that her daughter does not. Apparently the girls get treated poorly by some of the kids whose families hold beliefs that women and girls are second class citizens... so I guess it might depend on your experiences.
Many of you discuss an active and inactive account. How would I be able to see online if I am active? HR states my account is active, yet I cannot see it and have never received an email after completing the application. I am new to this process and do not want to mess it up.
SandArtSo, I guess if HR says your account is active, assume that it is until you get an e-mail. From what I have read here and in my experience, the e-mails saying your account is inactive is about a day or two before you get the tentative offer for a job.
Hi there! I have received 17 email referrals from 3 schools in Japan in the last 5 weeks. I just received two more today but no interviews have been set up yet. Why do I keep getting referrals from the same schools?
Some of you may already know this, but we rented a very small storage unit for some personal items: piano, boxes and boxes of pictures, photo albums, sentimental keepsakes.
Well, I was talking to my friend today who has been with DoDEA for 8 years, and he let me know that the military stores our stuff for us.
The only issue is you won't have access to your stored items till you leave employment, I think.
Just an FYI for those of you who did not know.
We have a very large, beautiful king bedroom set with high posts we were thinking of selling because our new place will probably be small. Now, we know it can be stored for us.
HelpOthersI apologize for not actively posting. I have been pretty busy in my current position. Now things are starting to slow down, so I will make a better effort to communicate on this board more often.
HelpOthersNot so much teaching in Turkey, but I was a high school student in Ankara from 1986-1988. I know Ankara is a small school, serving many students from the local embassies, not just the US Embassy in addition to the military personnel who are stationed there.
HelpOthersYes. TeacherMama K in Daegu is correct. It means you are qualified and the HR person with the initials "LS" is the one that made this decision.
