While there is expected to be some hiring of specials area teachers at the elementary level in DDESS, there have been folks that have been cut down to part-time over the past few years who would probably have first dibs at those positions.

I have a friend of a friend who is there now. She likes it fine for herself and says her son loves the school there but that her daughter does not. Apparently the girls get treated poorly by some of the kids whose families hold beliefs that women and girls are second class citizens... so I guess it might depend on your experiences.

So, I guess if HR says your account is active, assume that it is until you get an e-mail. From what I have read here and in my experience, the e-mails saying your account is inactive is about a day or two before you get the tentative offer for a job.

The only exception is that next school-year, if you do not RE-submit your transcripts, educators certificate, etc. you will not be activated for that school-year. It means each time was for a different position. So maybe 3 for grades 1-3 meant they were looking to fill multiple jobs.

Each time a search is run, the referral will automatically be sent to you. There is a chance the searches were made for the same position and they expanded or narrowed the search criteria and you qualified both times. Bondo, that is why many teachers in my district hold out on signing their contracts for the upcoming year. I learned from HR that you will not lose your position till the summer. They will call you first. Give you time to sign your contract second. Sure, it's not the best thing to leave your admin waiting, but my district has us sign our contracts ...See More

Agreed. If you turn down an offer, you application will be locked until the following school-year. However, one way to avoid the contract issue is to have teaching certificates in at least one other state. Most DoDDS teachers that have been around a long time discourage the use of the storage unit, because after several years, most items are too damaged to use. They suggest selling, giving, or lending items, especially if there is any consideration you will be with DoDDS several years. Not so much teaching in Turkey, but I was a high school student in Ankara from 1986-1988. I know Ankara is a small school, serving many students from the local embassies, not just the US Embassy in addition to the military personnel who are stationed there.
