Message the admin and let her know you're a new DoDEA hire and you can get added. Also, some of the schools have local FB pages. I don't know which ones.
Lastly, there is a teacher relocation/transfer page. I don't know the details about that one.
We have a business meeting with the entire interdisciplinary team (SLP, School Psych., Assessors, Counselors, etc, many of whom are shared between schools) around every other week that takes place during my planning.
The 90 minutes is basically across the board if your school is on block schedule, as many middle and high schools are (A1-A4 on one day, B1-B4 on another day). Some are on hybrid schedules with a combination of block and 7-period days (in which case you would get two 45 minute planning periods on those days).
Elementary is different I hear since your planning will generally be during the time your students have specials.
HelpOthersThe early release day at my schools has been for professional development, sometimes for project based learning collaboration, but rarely to be used like common planning time.
happyteacherMy original college prep qualified me for 1-6 general Ed, LIMM, LIMS, severe/profound (I had classes related to severe disabilities). I took two classes that gained me certification in PSCD, PreK gen Ed and Kinder gen Ed. I also took an additional class to certify in EI.
I just wanted to encourage all the SPED teachers out there looking for jobs, to obtain as many certs as possible. In all the referrals/interview requests I received this last year, only ONE (out of probably 15) was for LIMM. The rest were combinations of different sped certs, or LIMS, or PSCD. I know there are TWO other CONUS hires that are also going to my school, and both of those positions were PreSchool Disabled. In talking with current DoDDS teachers, sometimes SPED teachers within a school will request changes in what they are teaching. For instance, a PSCD or EI teacher may request LIMM, etc. So even if the LIMM teacher is the one that is moving/retiring, a teacher of another category may request a change of placement, leaving a harder to fill position such as LIMS or EI or PSCD as the vacancy. I know the other two teachers that were hired had alongside me, had multiple certs as well. From what I've heard, principals like to have sped teachers with multiple certs, so they can move them around to fill vacancies as needed. PSCD should be fairly easy for most people to add, since most colleges require you to take 3-6 credits in early childhood, so then you are left with potentially only needing to add 2 courses. Just wanted to share my experiences with those who are looking for SPED jobs, as this is what I've heard after talking with new colleagues. Start taking classes!
SpedTeacher74Same here Wonderlust.... I teach moderate/severe (10/1) and am working toward a BCBA and provide most of the behavior input for my district and I feel like such a loser when I tell people I'm only qualified in three areas for DoDDS and they aren't in my area of expertise...
As for peppers, you're going to want to grow your own or bring along dried. Japan's peppers are quite limited and there's never a guarantee about commissary stock. If you need things like masa harina, that's practically used as currency in JP.
Haha is absolutely right - make sure you have plenty of bottled water for them, too.
As for the mail, you have to remember that while mail goes through the USPS and military channels, it does still go through customs. In Japan, that means that sending produce is off limits, as is medication for over 30 days' supply *and* certain types of medication. It's different for each country, so make sure you know the rules and plan accordingly. For instance, don't ask someone to send you sweet potatoes. (Based on a true story, but not my story).

HR: Greeting Ms. _______, No further action is required of ...See MoreBett, that's what I was told when I e-mailed HR. Here's what I e-mailed a week ago and the response. Me: About 7 days ago I read that I would be getting an e-mail pertaining to completing my background information. Is there anything I should be doing right now for the background?
HR: Greeting Ms. _______, No further action is required of you at this time. A member of the security team will contact in the near future.
I feel confident I have the job, but we do not want to list our house till the firm offer. Also, there's so much to do. I just want to get it done.
I received an interview request for a school near Wiesbaden. I am really excited! Has anyone lived in that area as civilians? I am not military connected at all and from what I have read it looks like my family would have to live off base?
Last week I accepted an offer for a school in Japan. This week I received two emails requesting interviews. Am I correct in the assumption I may no longer interview for other positions/locations?
SandArtI wouldn't. In my district you can choose between offers if they come the same day, but I can't imagine DoDEA allowing such a practice. I was fortunate that the other interview I had was for something I would not want so easy to cancel after my job offer.
CandoSand Art, I was thinking that was the case. I inquired with HR and was told I must decline interviews. I am excited about the experience in Japan. However, the newest request was for a position and location I was hoping for.
