ms896It also depends on where you're going. If it's somewhere that requires a visa, you'll definitely be delayed. I'm a current dodea teacher, but because my new location requires a visa I'm still waiting... thanks to the pandemic slowing them down.
Jennifer PThanks Travel Bug! I actually wasn't thinking it was a problem or that I meant to seem complaining, more of a "this was my experience" for others out there. In my time on this board and in the process I have come to expect abnormality as a norm, so it wasn't an irritation or a problem for me.
I know there will still be referrals going out throughout the school year. I am just curious if zero referrals is typical? Are a majority of first time applying applicants getting no referrals? Just feeling a little bummed, I thought I would at least hit a list or two. Good thing I enjoy my current job :)
If you think it through, it becomes fairly obvious that zero referrals is the typical experience.
There are thousands of applicants in the EAS, and the referral lists contain names that were pulled based on criteria such as level of education, years of experience, a particular combination of certs, etc. This has the effect of creating a pyramid, where the applicants at the top portion of the pyramid get nearly all the referrals.
The system is becoming renowned for its glitches, and maybe that explains why lower ranking candidates do occasionally get a hit. But that doesn't change the conclusion in my opening statement.
And Jennifer P's recent post is just another piece of evidence supporting that conclusion - one referral in three years. The lady has patience!
Jules12I didn't know that we could ask HR. I might just do that. I'm in Korea. I think my only downfall was probably my longevity because they can see on my husband's orders (which gives me military spouse preference) that we will be leaving in June of next year :-/
hahaYou can always ask. There is no guarantee they will give you an answer (or a helpful one) but it's worth asking. Some principals may be bothered by your departure date, some won't. Good luck!
HelpOthersMy understanding is that Patriot Express is the primary choice and SATO will attempt to make this happen, but if all flights are booked, that other options will be used.
HelpOthersThese are filled through USA Jobs, so not exactly the same referral process. You get one notice of qualification and that the packet was referred to the next step in the process or get an e-mail of non-qualification.
I know that we receive return home paid for either once a year or every two years. My question is this. My ex husband gets to see his children twice a year. A couple days at Christmas and during the summer. Can we pay for our own trip back to the states to ensure visitation is maintained during these times? or is that not allowed?
That said, there are many DoDEA guidelines which emp...See MoreDoDEA employees and their dependents are permitted to take personal travel anytime at their own expense. However, given that you have legal agreement between you and your husband, you may need to seek legal advice to determine if your agreement allows overseas travel for your dependents.
That said, there are many DoDEA guidelines which employees and their dependents must take when doing so, in addition to guidelines and/or restrictions from the DoD, local military installations, and/or regions. If personal travel takes place during summer break, winter break, or spring break, it is also commonplace for DoDEA management to require employees to inform them of their travel plans including details regarding the flight(s), location(s), accommodations, duration, and dependents who will be traveling. If traveling during a public health emergency (pandemic), other crisis or emergency (areas of heightened situational awareness due to terrorism, climate change/weather, etc.), employees and their dependents may have additional restrictions, sometimes preventing travel from taking place or requiring additional paperwork or preventative measures.
Given the current circumstances with the global pandemic restrictions and guidelines vary from location to location, however a 14 day (or longer) quarantine should be expected after each leg of travel with additional requirements at each overseas installation or region. Currently in many overseas locations, nonessential travel is not permitted and families are required to stay inside their residences. In other areas, families are permitted to leave their homes and travel within the local area while following social distancing guidelines.
To sum it up, under normal circumstances you and your children should be able to travel at your own expense as long as you follow the DoDEA, DoD, and military guidelines, which will depend upon where you and your family are stationed. Many DoDEA employees and their dependents travel extensively overseas at their own expense. That is part of the great adventure!
IsItFriday? It's not a contract. You don't have a contract. When you get hired, you are on Probation. Eventually you become Permanent. But at no time do you sign a contract.
TGIF@DoDEA or Bust, For more information about the process immediately following the acceptance of an offer, click here: https://www.dodea.edu/onboarding/. All the best to you!
I interviewed for a position on Thursday. I was just informed that my references have been contacted. Is this a good sign, or is this just part of the process?
I dislike this new procedure in which HR check the references of a whole bunch of people. It relies on bothering a whole bunch of people who don't have skin in the game, and who may be tired of answering the reference checks when you actually are the leading contender.
I feel that if they have a clear choice, then simply check those references and extend the tentative offer. Then move further down the list if the tentative offer is rejected.
