I was interested to know if anyone is still getting referrals at this point. I accepted an offer and it has taken them over a month to figure out that the location can not handle my son's learning disability. So at least they reactivated my account. Any present referral's in science would be helpful to know.
ms896Weird- I have accepted a final offer already for the upcoming school year and my EAS application is locked for processing- but I just got a referral for another school a couple of days ago. Thought I wouldn't get any once I accepted, but did.
1234567FfmI asked, but it was not clear to me. I read up the FAQ part of EAS. I understood the above. I don't want to do make decisions that can block me form offers or possible further referrals and/or interviews. Thank You.
1) Is there some minimum number of days out your orders will be? So if they write the orders on July 15 will they not write them for less than "x" days out from that date? So you have enough time to finalize plans, say goodbye, etc.
2) Has anyone else had background check done recently and want to share how long it took? They have had my eqip responses for 2 weeks and my prints for 10 days and my references have not been contacted yet.
3) What exactly does your sponsor do and not do for you? I would like to have to have appropriate expectations.
4) How bad do you think its going to be when movements begin again for all the families in the queue waiting to move? What do you think will be most impacted? Finding TLQ? Reserving the movers? Etc.
Sponsors vary wildly based on location. individual, etc. Some pick you up from the airport and practically adopt you. Some answers some questions via email and then you don't talk with them again until school starts. Answering questions, some transportation on/around base until you get some of your own, maybe take you shopping the first time, to housing, to the CAC office, etc. would be reasonable expectations, but may or may not happen.
No idea what the back up will look like. Many moves have already happened under exceptions, so hopefully things will not be much worse than usual.
Quick question. Im a current Europe west local hire. I applied on Usa jobs and got an interview for Europe South. Does anyone know if I get the job if I pick up benefits? This is not an out of district move so I wasn't sure if this has an impact? Any advice is appreciated!

The vast majority of regular DoDEA teachers (non-active duty spouse) live off base. That's true in all three Areas.
There's only a very narrow subset of teachers who find living on base to be superior. Off base housing is superior, and you have more freedom. On base housing is subject to lots of rules, a fishbowl lifestyle, and a few other drawbacks.
If you're interested in DoDEA-Americas, then research the the towns around those schools, and the public school districts. Most DoDEA-America teachers live off base in a beautiful house, with a mortgage, and send their kids to public schools. Because America has a highway system, some of those teachers live 50 miles away. They live where they want to live, and they send their kids to school where they want to send them.
And DoDEA-Americas teachers don't "worry" about where they send their kids to school. They simply buy a house in the best school district.
Not every location is perfect. But focus on getting the job offer. Let's pick the curtains later.
IcanreadUnfortunately, it is really hard to move positions/schools/countries nowadays. Hopefully that will change in the future, but at this point, I would only accept a position in a location where you could be longterm.
But basically, yes, that...See MoreIt happens. Japan District did offer this possibility for in district moves, prior to last year (two years ago?). I believe another district in Europe still offers this but could be wrong.
So, no guarantee, but an district move seems more likely to happen/come back than a full system wide transfer program.
But basically, yes, that is one of the few options open to us right now (although you could apply for DoDEA Americas positions, rather than just quit your overseas position).
Question #1- Are business teachi...See MoreI was contacted by the Assistant Principal of the high school in Puerto Rico requesting to have an interview for "a possible PART-TIME" position. The email went on to say that the position is teaching business part-time or 20 hours per week. Since it was part-time, DODEA will not incur any cost in movement.
Question #1- Are business teaching positions typically part-time or full-time?
Question #2- If an external teaching candidate such as myself has an endorsement in Business Education, what is another endorsement to work towards to increase my chances for full-time employment with the DODEA?

How many o...See More1) Will teaching at a DOD stateside school help me to get hired overseas in the long run? *Possibly, if the hiring person is hoping for someone familiar with the DoDEA system and processes. And, they may trust the supervisor's reference especially if they happen to know them personally.
2) I have 12 years of teaching experience. How many of those years will be counted towards the pay scale? *While working stateside, only 5 years of experience will be credited, so you would start on step 5. However, if/when you go abroad, they would credit up to 10 years, plus how ever many years you work DoDEA Americas. So, At of after 10 years of experience is a good time to just get into DoDEA to continue to add experience years and start on your retirement.
3) Do you get LQA or any assistance when teaching stateside? *No. However, the ore expensive areas have a cost-of-living built into the base-pay, which is why not all the scales are similar. On the other hand, some schools are in very inexpensive areas where you could easily rent a place on or off base for $1000/month. If working in the USA, your husband would have more opportunities for work. However when/if you go abroad, the LQA and Post Allowance would likely cover the expenses his income was covering.
Tentative Offer: May ...See MoreJust thought I'd post a timeline to help others. Keep in mind, I was already in the system as a dodea teacher and my security check was still valid and didn't need to redo all of that. This is for a position in Europe South, if that makes a difference.
