It seems that when there are hard to fill positions, they are more likely to send out internal emails for positions that open to internal applicants.
It is frustrating that there is no real internal system for moving/applying for other positions/locations. Maybe someday...
So I was rated qualified in Social Studies, possess a master's in history (from Norwich, and have just completed my fifth year of full-time teaching. I listed any location under my preferences.
I got a singular referral, but no interviews. I am planning on finishing my national board certification in the fall. Is there anything that you all can think of to make myself a more attractive candidate?
I do recognize that Social Studies is a field with a lot of competition, few positions and that this whole mess has most likely affected the number of positions that will come up this year.
hahaLook into AVID. It is often combined with SS and generally only needs a short workshop to become certified.
Agree with the advice to see what you already have in your transcripts, what you can test into adding onto your state cert (if your state allow you to add by testing) and then reassess what might be the best/easiest area to add.
HippolytaDon't forget, if your state allows certification via testing, the course work required by DODEA is cut in half. Also, consider AP training. Many states are offering online AP training this summer.
I have been given a tentative offer for an overseas job for the 2020-2021 school year. I am waiting for my fingerprints to be processed to complete the background check. The location I am going to has a two week quarantine and I will need to apply for a visa as well. When would you typically start shipping your household goods and purchase plane tickets? This is all new to me!
HelpOthersMsWatson, to avoid the multiple posts, after you hit comment, refresh your page or open it again in a new tab. You should see that it has been posted. If worried about losing a long post, just copy it first. It's a glitch in teachers.net
I know schools are out now, so I was assuming hiring would pick up, but July is in just a few weeks, so I wondered what that might look like during this very unique summer period.
However, I am getting AP referrals from USA Jobs-- today I received another one for Guam. However, I never get too focused on those because I know they may already have an internal candidate in place.
hahaPrincipals do generally take some period of time off during the summer. There may be fewer of them traveling this year due to the restrictions/complications/uncertainties involved,. But, they are perfectly capable of recruiting/interviewing while traveling and many have done so in the past.
Sorry it might have been asked before, but I couldn't find the thread again. If I take an educational aid offer now, will it freeze/ affect my teaching application in EAS? I am thinking ideally: can I decline the educational aid offer after I accept it IF I have a teaching offer later? Thanks!
hahaThey should be separate systems/processes. It "shouldn't" freeze your EAS if you accept a paraprofessional position. You "should" be able to accept a teaching position and resign the para position. Only HR could say for certain(ish) though.
IcanreadI worked with a parapro (who was also a certified teacher). Two weeks into her new job as a parapro, she received a fulltime job offer as a teacher. She obviously quit and took the teaching job. Like haha said, they "should" be 2 separate systems and not affect each other.
HelpOthersJanuary may have been too early to trigger it for this school-year. I would just do it again and delete the old one after you see the new one.
