So, if you get a referral, no ingerview request and then later you get another referral for same position thats basically kiss of death right? I interpret that as meaning the initial list wasn't satisfactory so they are looking for someone else.
masterscandidate2016You never know what a principal is looking for. The first referral, they could have been looking for a specific name or only picked people they had heard of or interviewed the top 3. I, personally, don't think this is the kiss of death.

Is it common to never get a referral? Or do many people get referrals, but the interview is what's truly rare? I see many SPED and SCI referrals, but I presume that's because they are in the highest demand..
As for USA Jobs, read the posting carefully. It will tell you exactly how to apply. It may direct you to EAS (teaching positions) or it may instruct you on how to apply directly through USA Jobs. Your resume needs to clearly show how you meet or exceed their expectations for the position, so not the usual 1-2 page resume. Review the videos and lessons provided for how to create a resume for a government position. If you neglect to include any documents or mention of key elements, your application may never been seen by someone who understands education or your position.
I am an external applicant and so new to DoDEA. I got only one referral email so far and no interview offer. I am anxious, but cannot do anything on my end. I am a math teacher with almost 10 year experience including teaching AP courses. When is the exact hiring season for DoDEA?
September 8, 2014, changes the wording for the exceptions that I think occurred for those who had return packages with their current employment overseas.
Enclosure 2:
1. LQA OVERVIEW. Overseas allowances and post differentials (PD) are recruitment incentives for U.S. citizens living in the U.S. to accept federal employment in a foreign area. With the exception of post allowances (PA), overseas allowances and differentials are not automatic salary supplements or entitlements. Employees recruited in the U.S. for employment in foreign areas may be authorized an LQA and PD.
Enclosure 3: Eligibility
(1) To be LQA-eligible, individuals (including former Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) educators) returning to the U.S. from DoD employment overseas must physically reside in the U.S. or the commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands from the time he/she applied for employment until he/she accepted a formal offer of employment.
(2-3) DoDEA employees on LWOP and local hires with special circumstances.
The other section in LQA Ove...See MoreI certainly hope it's not the very first date a person applied. That would disqualify me for sure. But this wording also gives me hope as a teacher at an international school, as it doesn't reference others, only former Dod employees. "returning to the US from DoD employment overseas must physically reside..."
The other section in LQA Overview only makes reference to "employees recruited in the US..." well, I'm accessing a website in the US. Doesn't say I have to be IN the US to access it.
It truly would seem unfair to not allow teachers at international schools to qualify for LQA, if we are US citizens. We're not local hires, if we're at international schools. We mostly likely aren't in the country we're trying to get a job at (well, I'm not at any rate!)
jgray1278@Cordelia, I am also at an international school. I just received a tentative offer and filled out most of my paperwork. I turned in my LQA questionnaire a few days ago. I am hoping I am eligible for it. I will keep you all posted because I know this was an issue for a few of us on this board.
So after roughly two months after the initial phone interview (the one I thought I did HORRIBLE), I just got an email with a tentative job offer which surprised me because I let that option go a while ago.
But now I am newly married and have a husband to think about and he said he doesn't want to move away from where we are yet because our parents are getting older, will need help from us, etc. Mind you, I applied for DoDEA school positions before I even got engaged.
But I noticed that they request you to contact all of your past employers to fill out a form and I know for sure I will have a little to no chance to reach my first employer (1-year teaching experience).
So my question are: (1) If we cannot reach one of our past employers, does that mean I will lose a year of teaching experience?; (2) If I sign the contract, will it be for at least two years?; and (3) What do spouses of DoDEA teachers' end up doing while living overseas?
In case you are wondering, I'm probably going to decline the offer unless I can convince my husband to move with me. If I can find him a job, he might consider it. He hates doing nothing so that's why. He is also a Navy reserve and there is no Navy work in where I got my job offer in Stuttgart, Germany.
What if I decline this offer and will never get another offer here again in the future?! This is a one-time opportunity? Am I freaking out for no reason? :(
HopefulTo follow up on my earlier comment- I speak from experience. I turned down my first offer because the timing wasn't right. I kept my application active, and I am now happily employed with DODEA in a great location at a time that is right for my family. So, truly, this won't be your only shot. :)

hahaThere is no transferring into admin. There is a separate recruitment process with interviews, essays, grading of your responses/application, etc. I believe if approved, they offer you a location(s), but I'm not really sure about that.
1. Are science positio...See MoreHi All, I have just received an email (like many of you) noting I've been referred for general high school and middle school science. This is my first time applying to the DODEA so I have no clue what happens next.I believe I just play the waiting game, but while I do I've been looking for an update on the following;
1. Are science positions in high demand?
2. For those who have taught at the international schools, how did you feel about the transition/switch. I am at an international school in China but would love the opportunity to try the DODEA

Science is a relatively high needs field, especially at the secondary level, depending on specific areas you can teach.
We taught internationally in several different countries and enjoyed it. We have also really enjoyed DoDEA. For us, it was financially a much better move and opened up educational opportunities for our special needs child that were not readily available in most int'l schools.
Whether it would be a step up, down or to the side would depend on your frame of reference. Financially, I think it would be a significant step up for most int'l school teachers unless you are at one of the upper 1st tier/elite schools, and even then, the fact that housing and utilities are completely covered with no top up needed, is a definite advantage.
As for teaching environment, DoDEA is generally going to be a step up. Behavior problems are relatively mild in most locations (this will vary quite a bit obviously) which would generally put DoDEA ahead of many locations in the ME and other countries/regions where behavior can be an issue. Our families are generally involved and care about their children's expectations, but there is generally going to be less pressure then many elite int'l schools or admin bowing to parent whims/changing grades, etc. then you would find in many ME schools.
Also, DoDEA has schools in many desirable countries. And, in the desirable countries, int'l schools tend to offer less salary/benefits because they do not need to entice people to come teach in Italy, Germany, the UK, etc. So, with DoDEA, you get the location AND the same relatively high salary/housing, travel etc.
Access to base facilities where English is the language (e.g. clinic, gym, commissary, BX, library, etc.) can be a big plus. Teaching a virtually all American student body and having virtually all American colleagues will be a plus for some, a minus for others.
For us, it has been a great move. Early on, we talked about whether we would ever go back to int'l schools for a chance to teach in a certain country or at a specific dream school, but that has mostly passed and we are not likely to go anywhere else.
Hello. The Work Experience section of my application is not showing up in chronological order. I have tried deleting and adding info again, but it still shows my work experience out of order. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, any suggestions?
EvelynIcanread, thank you. I was worried that it might reflect poorly when principals view my application, but if it's showing up on other applications, then I'm sure they are aware.
Greetings, my wife and I are international teachers and are interested in working the DoD. However, we've heard from one source that we'd have to pay for our own children's tuition. Can anyone confirm or refute this? I can't imagine many teachers would pay the $20 some thousand per year given their salaries. Thanks in advance!
