hahaIt's a good point to remember. Everyone is generally very eager to add as many certs as possible to maximize their chances of being hired. It's good to keep in mind though that once a subject/grade level is on your DoDEA cert, it is there to stay and you could be asked to actually teach it.
Hi everyone, I saw an ISS position on Okinawa for Media Centers and was wondering if anyone has any information on it. I've never seen an ISS position for the media center before and it sorta set me back to see it. Thanks in advance Rachel.
RJI am not. I have been there a few times an di have many friends that live there. It's the perfect place to raise a family. That's just my opinion. Maybe others can chime in.
With EAS being down I can't check my qualifications to make sure, but I think one said I needed an English course to get the qualification. Just one course. Not a teaching English course, just an English course above the ones that are required core classes required for an undergraduate. Where do I find one of these to take? Any ideas?
Would someone outside of the military world be able to adapt to this role fairly quickly? Or is this a role typically reserved for someone with a military background?
hahaIt often seems to go to a military spouse or former military in my narrow experience. They would likely want someone who can be knowledgeable/empathetic bridge between the school and the military community. Sometimes more knowledge and experience in one sector can make up for a lack in the other. It can't hurt to apply.
Hi all, I am looking to get 24 SH on elementary education. All my research just shows BA/MA. But I don't want a degree on that, I just need online courses. Any suggestion helps! Thank you so much!!
lalalandI feel like I have a lot research problems concerning where to get my courses done. Thank you for your suggestions in the other post! I will look into it!
IcanreadThey will definitely need teachers. I know the travel ban is affecting so many things. I think hiring may just be later than expected this year.
TeachSchools are still placing excesses and don't have their student numbers complete for next year since families cannot PCS right now nor project when they will be at a new school.
I recently got National Board certified (think 10 times before you start, it'll consume you) and our state has financial incentives for getting the NB certificate as well as working at a low-income low-achieving school as an NB certified teacher (which is the case for me). So I'm trying to see if it's a financially sound decision for me to teach overseas at a DoDEA school... I have NO IDEA what the average salary would be. I recently refinanced my house and am about to get married (well, we're trying but COVID-19 is making it more adventurous for us) so now I have a lot on my plate to consider.
I've taught 3 three at an international school (which my state counted as full-time teaching experience years) and I'm finishing up 7th year back in the states, which means I would have 10 years under my belt by the end of the school year 2019-2020. Can anyone enlighten me with an average salary for a middle school teacher with these teaching credentials/experience?
Thank you so much for the time and reply in advance. I'm so stressed out lately.
Liv_hopeful@Couple of Questions, @ IsItFriday?, and @HelpOthers, thanks so much for your input. I don't think this year is my year to move overseas but it's great to know that we have a community here where we can always count on others to help us out with questions. Have a great day and and stay safe, guys! :)
My long term goal is to move overseas, I don't really care...See MoreI am new to DODEA and did not do much research, beyond knowing what I wanted to do but not the process. So I interviewed for a job. I acted under the assumption, better to get in and then request a move. The location is not bad and the pay is good, stateside, but it is not my goal.
My long term goal is to move overseas, I don't really care where, I just have not wanted to stay in the states since I got out of the military. I am in special education and got masters plus.
My question is how hard would it be to get an overseas position? Will I be stuck stateside a long time? I am leaving a hire paying job with good benefits and retirement, but its not about the money for me and more about finding the right place, something that has been lacking for me since getting out of the military.
I would appreciate your insight and experiences in this. I have a degree in special education and another one in teaching of history. I am at 10 plus experience so I would only get 5 for states, no big deal.
So to sum it up, two main questions:
1. How hard will it be in my field to transfer overseas?
2. Are there any educational funding benefits to continue to grow or pursue new certifications?
3. If I am at 5 now, stateside, and do get overseas, can I then get moved to 10 because of the previous teaching experience?
