Someone started a Facebook group for teachers trying to get hired with the DoDEA. It's for teachers to share their experience with the process. https://www.facebook.com/groups/538804653677909/
Another question about salary...I've seen some conflicting information on here. After I earned my BA, I started taking classes towards a MA. I ended up moving and didn't finish that degree, but I earned 15 credits. I later completed a different MA. Since earning my MA, I have earned another 15 credits. Would DoDEA count me as MA+30? Most school systems I'm familiar with only will not, but I've heard that FEA won a grievance against DoDEA that requires them to do this. True?
Yes, it also does sound like you would be at Masters +30. As long as the other graduate credits were not part the Masters you are using for qualifying for the Masters salary lane, they should work for Masters +30.
As always, when in doubt , ask HR and then let us know what they say.
Make sure all your transcripts are uploaded and that you confirm your pay before signing that official document.
If you are hired DoDEA USA-Territories, they will likely place you at MA +15. They refused to make a change to my request for something similar despite the court order. However,DoDEA-foreign countries should place you at MA +30. You need to clearly show that those initial 15 credits were issued after your bachelors and not included in your masters degree.
It looks like my application has been frozen. I had 4 interviews last week so I am guessing I will get one of those positions. I just wanted to inform everyone.
HelpOthersWow, that's great. I think the only concern would be losing the anonymity. I don't mind helping people here, but I wouldn't want to get into any trouble...hmmm.
RJBeen on DoDEA 8 years, never heard a mention of a drug test. That being said, if you are caught, you can say goodbye to your career. Recently a district office employee was caught drinking and driving by the base MPs. They sent him home.
IcanreadAs a federal employee, we do receive emails and there are commercials on AFN stating that we are not allowed to smoke pot, even if you are in a country or US state where it is legal. That said, there is no drug testing. If you receive a DUI, you will also probably be fired. DoDEA doesn't mess around with those either.
IcanreadThere are also a few ISS jobs - one in VA, Germany, and Okinawa. If you have a masters and the required experience (different for each one), you can also apply for those. You apply for those through USA jobs, I believe.
I am trying to get in touch with HR. The only place I know I can access their e-mail is on EAS. It is down for maintenance. Does anyone have easy access?
In some cases, internal candidates do have an advantage by knowing the system/terminology and maybe even having personal connections. But, it's not a deal breaker or a hopeless cause for external candidates (even those who are not yet working as an admin).
RJI hate to say it, but it's also based on who you know. Like with teaching jobs, some positions are already spoken for before they are even advertised. They go through the motions and THAT person is hired.
I've stopped getting referrals. I received 2 a few weeks ago, but no more since. I don't know if it's because they haven't really gotten into the hiring season, they aren't hiring for positions I'm qualified for, or because my interviews have been awful (I get really nervous). It's really difficult to remain hopeful.
RJWe were late to the game in terms of transitioning to online learning (Japan and the UK were the last to switch), so much of the effort is going towards supporting current teachers and figuring out expectations, as well as dealing with the myriad of parent complaints. It's a very, very busy time for admins.
