RJBeen on DoDEA 8 years, never heard a mention of a drug test. That being said, if you are caught, you can say goodbye to your career. Recently a district office employee was caught drinking and driving by the base MPs. They sent him home.
IcanreadAs a federal employee, we do receive emails and there are commercials on AFN stating that we are not allowed to smoke pot, even if you are in a country or US state where it is legal. That said, there is no drug testing. If you receive a DUI, you will also probably be fired. DoDEA doesn't mess around with those either.
IcanreadThere are also a few ISS jobs - one in VA, Germany, and Okinawa. If you have a masters and the required experience (different for each one), you can also apply for those. You apply for those through USA jobs, I believe.
I am trying to get in touch with HR. The only place I know I can access their e-mail is on EAS. It is down for maintenance. Does anyone have easy access?
In some cases, internal candidates do have an advantage by knowing the system/terminology and maybe even having personal connections. But, it's not a deal breaker or a hopeless cause for external candidates (even those who are not yet working as an admin).
RJI hate to say it, but it's also based on who you know. Like with teaching jobs, some positions are already spoken for before they are even advertised. They go through the motions and THAT person is hired.
I've stopped getting referrals. I received 2 a few weeks ago, but no more since. I don't know if it's because they haven't really gotten into the hiring season, they aren't hiring for positions I'm qualified for, or because my interviews have been awful (I get really nervous). It's really difficult to remain hopeful.
RJWe were late to the game in terms of transitioning to online learning (Japan and the UK were the last to switch), so much of the effort is going towards supporting current teachers and figuring out expectations, as well as dealing with the myriad of parent complaints. It's a very, very busy time for admins.
I applied for the DoDEA overseas job, my application switched to qualified....but now what?!? Do I just have to stalk my email and wait? What's the time frame to hear back about possible interviews for a Speech Pathologist?
IbeforeEHi SLPs! I'm glad we have our little area to chat : ) Congrats @Stacyslp! that's great as Japan is my #1! How is your caseload? do you do push in/pull out? Any word of other positions opening up? @Heather where have you applied/got referrals to?
HeatherThat is awesome! I have almost every overseas location selected, but I just found out from reading these posts that I had the assessor application and not the other SLP position so I added that one. I was added for 1 referral last week and now just super hopeful and anxious. A blessing and a curse, lol. Rota, Spain was my referral
hahaYeah, I started to respond in a similar way but then realized I had no idea. The time zone hypothesis makes some sense, but we have no idea if any part of the process is automated in any way. So, maybe?
Grades 4-6. Now I am actually interested in working with gifted learners, so I wouldn't mind taking courses in that area. Which certification would be the most beneficial to earn?
I apologize if someone has already asked this. I just got a referral for a stateside position. I don't understand the pay scale. I have seven years of teaching experience and a Master's Degree. Can someone explain? Thanks!!
