IcanreadThere is no longer a charter flight on/off the base. It is really hard to get on the military flights, as most other people have priority over teachers. So if you need to return to the states, it can be really difficult to leave.
But I have heard wonderful things about the base, the people, the community, and the events that go on there!
LolaTeachIt's only for local hires, so no LQA or moving expenses. Having been a local hire, I would not recommend entering the organization in this way. Wait for a different position to open up.
Do you wish to be considered for DoDEA vacancies overseas? Yes No
But I can't tell which circle designates a yes or no. Can anyone else see this misaligned formatting under the section where you select yes/no? I'm confused about what circle is for yes and what circle is for no.
Snow LaneThe position in Aguadilla is new. They've never had a PL ISS.
What Mary said about the position is true. They do a bit of everything. Their area of expertise is more on instructional techniques rather than a content area.
It's for the Europe Region, not the Pacific region (my dream), but I'm so excited my application triggered a referral! I was planning for next week in Google Meet with my team when the email came through and I gasped very loud while trying not to dance in my seat lol
HelpOthersJust remember that if you turn down an offer, your application will be frozen and unavailable for the remainder of that school-year. If you know you don't want a location, it is better to turn down the interview than to turn down the offer.
This is not really related to this chat board, but does anyone know how the DODEA employees, students, and military are doing in Italy? Are they going to be evacuated? I read Italy is in lockdown.
HelpOthersUpdate, those who are returning to the USA due to medical concerns do not have to report to Arlington, VA. Now, they can go to other locations. I think most people I know feel safer just staying put. Most people are working from their homes.
What positions have had referrals go out so far? Other than Korea, has anyone had referrals for middle school math, elementary school classroom teacher, or school librarian? I've only gotten one referral and that was a few weeks ago.
IcanreadYou can also do a Google search... Type "teachers.net interview questions" in google (or another search engine). The first few results should be from teachers.net. There is no search option within teachers.net so this is the only option to search.
How are ya? As I sit here and cry over my glass of wine and stack of essays I have to read, I received an update on my application. I applied for several positions, due to either my experience in those teaching roles or degrees and course work. To preface I have the following qualifications;
1. Texas Education license for Core Subjects 4-8.with and ESL Supplement
2. Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry
3. Masters in Educational Studies: Secondary with a concentration in English
4. TEFL/TESOL License
Experience:

2. 2 years teaching 8th-grade ELA-Used TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Curriculum)
3. 2 years teaching 6th-grade homeroom (math, science, reading, writing, technology, and cultural studies). The international schools in Asia require 6th graders to stay in homeroom. Subject teachers are for 7th grade and above. We used CCSS.

I have sent an email asking for clarification, but I thought you'd lovely folks could provide some insight. I am still a relatively new teacher, with a few years under my belt. I am a bit discouraged as I am not sure how I could improve my application given the coursework. I remain optomistic that something will work out, but I am not quite sure what. Thank you for reading this, I appreciate your time!
hahaYes. Just check the requirements of the position/subject you are trying to qualify in as some have requirements for a certain amount of "upper level" credits, which generally would not be community college level (upper level are usually listed as 300/400 classes).
So I got a referral for a place that is literally last on my list. I am fine if this year isn't my year. Am I better off responding to the referral with a no thank you or waiting to see if I get an interview and then responding no thank you to the interview. I have to say...I got soooo excited when I saw that referral come in!!!
oldshack@haha this is true, the "in theory" part makes me nervous, but I would be ok with the other Italy locations. My wife and I both would really like Aviano, but that school is small and referrals are probably rare.
