I enrolled in a Master's in Elementary Education program that taught all the methods classes, and I took several early childhood education and special education courses on the side, at other schools. Plus, a few ESOL courses. In addition to that, I got certified in 6 additional subject areas.
So, far in less than a year, because I started my journey in June 2019, I have earned the following:
1) 12 additional SH in special education. Now, I have a total of 24 SH credits in this area
2) 9 SH in early childhood courses. I will have 15 SH by the end of June
3) 24 SH in elementary education. I will have 27 SH by the end of June
4) 8 SH in ESOL
5) Plus, I'm one class away from having my master's in elementary education this summer.
And by the grace of GOD, all my hard work paid off because I was recently qualified for most of the "target jobs" I put in for, and a few of them are still pending. So, what I want to say if you really want something, you got to work hard for it. And I did, there were times I took 8 classes at the same time, and yes, I passed them ALL with straight "A's." By the end of June, I will have a grand total of 74 SH in education, which is a lot compared to the 12 SH I started off with.
PalmatThank you for providing me with some insight into her role. I really can't find any information about what the responsibility scope of a DoDEA social worker. So at least I now have an idea of what the role would entail. Thank you!
Snow LaneI noticed this year when I updated, it had a "school year" next to my attachments, indicating the year I last updated them. I think not having everything up to date with the current year is what ultimately holds people back. I hadn't seen that in the past, so I'm wondering if it was just the way I updated this time.
LolaTeachSometimes principals are looking for a particular person. If that person is not on the list, HR generates another list. This MAY be an explanation, but with DODEA, who knows.
It coul...See MoreThey may have felt that those on the original list did not meet their needs, so they requested another list. Sometimes this new list has new names on it. It's likely you won't be asked to interview again. If you really want the position, you could contact the person who arranged your first interview and as for another opportunity.
It could be they are looking for specific experiences/qualifications or as LolaTeach said, they may be hoping for a specific person to appear on the list.
This question is for @haha or anyone currently teaching SPED for the DODEA. I am qualified to teach Grades 1-3, 4-6 and Mild Learning Impaired (Elementary, Middle School, and Secondary). I just decided to add Emotional Impairment for elementary (and am qualified ) and I am considering adding Emotional Impairment for Middle School and Secondary (I've only taught Emotional Impairment at the elementary level).
Here is my question: What are the case loads like for Emotionally Impaired teachers? Do they have those teachers at most schools? What does it look like for the Middle and Secondary levels?
It happened to me in the past. I made it all the way to interview before the principal looked at my transcripts and said he'd love to hire me but didn't think I would make it past HR if he picked me (I had a BA in a non-education subject and a few other classes). That motivated me to get my Masters in SPED.
HelpOthersThe referral lists are pulled based on the areas you said you qualified in. Verification will be done later. Some choose to get the verification before the interview and others at the time of the offer.
IcanreadThere is no longer a charter flight on/off the base. It is really hard to get on the military flights, as most other people have priority over teachers. So if you need to return to the states, it can be really difficult to leave.
But I have heard wonderful things about the base, the people, the community, and the events that go on there!
LolaTeachIt's only for local hires, so no LQA or moving expenses. Having been a local hire, I would not recommend entering the organization in this way. Wait for a different position to open up.
Do you wish to be considered for DoDEA vacancies overseas? Yes No
But I can't tell which circle designates a yes or no. Can anyone else see this misaligned formatting under the section where you select yes/no? I'm confused about what circle is for yes and what circle is for no.
Snow LaneThe position in Aguadilla is new. They've never had a PL ISS.
What Mary said about the position is true. They do a bit of everything. Their area of expertise is more on instructional techniques rather than a content area.
It's for the Europe Region, not the Pacific region (my dream), but I'm so excited my application triggered a referral! I was planning for next week in Google Meet with my team when the email came through and I gasped very loud while trying not to dance in my seat lol
HelpOthersJust remember that if you turn down an offer, your application will be frozen and unavailable for the remainder of that school-year. If you know you don't want a location, it is better to turn down the interview than to turn down the offer.
