This late in the game, is it even possible to get those complete before hiring season tapers off towards the end of the summer?I found three different classes at two different schools, but they won't be complete until the end of June, and I'm wondering if the investment is worth the rush, or if I should just focus on what I have. Basically, should I take the drama courses throughout the next year if I'm not offered a referral/position.
teachandtravelIt couldn't hurt to have right? I had the same mindset before starting my master's program last week, but whether I'm hired by DoDEA or not it's still something that will help me in this field. Also, even if you take the course and don't get hired this year, it could help next year possibly. That's how I look at it.
MsUI've been wondering the same thing. I'm very close to two additional certs but I don't think I really have enough time to get them for this year. So I think I'm going to see how this year goes and then work on them over the course of next year if I do not get a DOD position.
Received my tentative offer for SLP position on Guam today! So thankful that I had this chatboard to understand the process more! I'm a single mom with an 8 year old daughter....we are going on an adventure!! :)
IbeforeEhey @lovetotalkslp - congrats again on your offer! I was wondering, as a fellow SLP, if you were referred to any other positions this round. I got one for Korea but no interview request. TIA
@BH: I don't believe that there is a "horrible interviewee" blacklist. Many people have survived bad interviews and ended up getting future opportunities/offers.
@Lk: Those combinations of certs are actually pretty good. ELA certs are fairly common but so are ELA positions (every MS and HS needs at least several of them). The additional related electives are a bonus that give potential admin some flexibility in scheduling/assignments.
Okay! Can someone remind me if you can reject a job before interviewing for a position and still be considered for others? I know you definitely can't do so after interviewing, but could t remember if that applies prior to interviewing. I wish there was a search function on this thing!
It's a mildly misleading title but I was wondering about timeframes after an interview. It seems like for local hires the interview season is underway in Oki. My first interview I don't feel like I got it, but the second one I had I feel more confident in. The kicker is I have another interview tomorrow too.
I know it can be a gamble to accept or decline an offer if you are hoping for a certain school. So any thoughts on how long it takes to hear from HR? The schools seem eager to put in their candidates. The schools I talked to said that it could be around a week or so.
Also, is it a thing to only get selected for a certain grade? I'm qualified K-6 but I'm only getting referrals for kinder... Not complaining but I think it is a little strange. Lastly, I find it interesting that one school is a phone interview without the grade-level team and the other interviews are in person or through Google Meets with their grade-level teams.
I know that I really appreciated reading other candidates timeline so I am going to add mine below.
11/26 email notification that I was placed on referral list
11/27 email interview request from school
12/4 interview
12/17 tentative offer
12/18 accepted and completed initial paperwork
12/20 more new hire tasks assigned and completed
12/23 request for background information
12/30 email from PSIP stating background would expire without fingerprints (never had any instructions how to do this had to call PSIP to get codes from security over the phone)
1/2 had fingerprints done electronically at the VA
1/3 PSIP email stating they received all required documents for background check
1/8 email from security rep that I was approved with LOSS clearance ad HR rep confirmed she received the approval
Wishful ThinkingPersonnel Security Investigation Portal that you should receive with your Background Investigation Information. Just be on the lookout for it and ask your HR rep for help if it is taking too long. You will need the official form, so don't try to get it too quickly. Post Office does them at cost and military installations for free.
LindseyYou don't necessarily need their form but you do need the codes. You can get them rolled anywhere you want if you have the right codes for the form. My suggestion would be to get them done on a military base or at the VA as they can send them over electronically.
I received a tentative offer for Humphreys High School on April 2nd. I completed the onboarding paperwork, but did not see anything about fingerprinting. Will I need to be fingerprinted? Do they request them separately? Thanks in advance for your help!
i_heart_glitterThank you for the info. It booster my self confidence. I don't like myself when I question my confidence. Thank you again. I love how supportive this chat group is to one another
