happytoteachHi Coach Walker - I noticed that you had applied for the Pacific ISS PE/Health position, just wondering if you had gotten the job - if so, good luck in your new adventure!
I'm currently in Okinawa and have started subbing at KES, although now it has died down since schools are closed. My EAS application has finally been processed as well and I'm K-6 qualified. I haven't received an email about being on a referral list but the school secretary reached out saying I was on the list and was wondering if I would be interested in teaching kinders for the remainder of the school year. Meaning that sometime later she would send me an email about interviews. Plus, it is a 21st century school with the open floor concept with shared space between two classes and of course co-teaching.
Any thoughts or experiences with this? I'm a military spouse so I had to leave my class mid-year and not being in the classroom is driving me crazy!! I feel like I'm off to a good start with building connections within the school through subbing, but I honestly never thought I would teach lower than 4th.
okihope@Mary I can only imagine. With upper grades it has to be a lot easier on the student and parents. Whereas the kinders are so dependent on their parents. We will see how it goes! I'll keep you posted!
hahaJust be very straightforward. Thank you very much for your interest in my candidacy but as I had indicated on my EAS, we are not considering positions in XYZ at this time (or words to that affect). You might have a reason you want to include or just leave it at that.
I'm considering a return stateside and wondered what the timing had to be on that. Obviously, I would finish the school year. But must I leave right away? Or does it matter when I leave over the summer? Does anyone on here know the rules for that?
IcanreadThis is a great resource for all the acronyms you may need to learn - https://www.dodea.edu/onboarding/Acronyms.cfm. But I don't think the list includes all the additional military acronyms! I'm still learning most of them!!
In Japan, you have 60 days from the time your SOFA status ends to find new employment with SOFA status, receive a different type of Visa or leave the country. I do not know what the regulations are in other countries. Each country has its own SOFA guidelines.
The Renewal Agreement Travel is based on a new transportation agreement. If you are in a two-year location, you are agreeing to stay another two years. If you do not take RAT, you sign a new agreement for one year and defer your RAT, which you can take the following year or you can leave DoDEA without penalty. If you take RAT and sign a new travel agreement, I believe it is similar to taking a job for the first time with a two year agreement. If you leave before that agreement ends, you may be responsible for your own relocation expenses. You may not have an opportunity to pay back the RAT as an option. Again, that is why some, especially single adults choose to pay for their own travel and not take RAT.
hahaJust saw that on the most recent union information that the ISS PE position is still listed as vacant, while some other ISS positions are listed as "selection made but not yet official". Interesting.

Also interesting that we apparently have 75+ ISS positions, just for the Pacific Districts.
Question. Is I have 12 full years of public school certified teacher experience with a master's and my +30, would I start on level 13 under master's +30?
At worst, maybe someone will correct our misconception about how the salary scale works and you would feel better (I guess).
But, I doubt it. It even bothers me. If you had zero years of experience, where would you start? Step 1(?). If you had 1 year of experience, where would you start? Step 2(?). And so on... The math just doesn't seem to add up they way they claim it did.
