I did have a question for you. For my SPED qualifications, they only qualified me to teach EBD and mild learning impairment (ES, MS, and HS) even though my *major* for my masters was SPED. I don't have enough classes in severe disabilities. I've been searching online and can't find any classes that seem to meet their requirements.:((( Since you're a SPED teacher, do you have recommendations for online SPED classes??
As for SPED, yes, most degrees seem to offer the "mild to moderate" classes and DoDEA wants Moderate to Severe class content. was going to have the same issue so I chose a class about Methods of Teaching Moderate/Severe students as my elective for my Masters and then added an additional class (a general class about Mod/Severe Students). They also generally accept classes about Assistive Technology, Physical Disabilities and Cognitive Disabilities. Grand Canyon generally has some classes that would work. It's harder to find self-paced classes that would meet the requirements. If I come across any, I'll post them. Maybe someone else has some specific classes/college ideas that would work and will post.
With everything going on all over the world with this new virus, have any current employees heard that it may effect hiring for next year due to travel bans and quarantines?
RJWe will have openings a for next year and I know for a fact that my supervisor is tasked with bigger fish to fry than filling positions that won't need to be filled until August. Plus we don't know if there will still be travel restrictions in the summer. Hopefully not.

I'm assuming they don't have that many people in the EAS system with Cuba selected as a Target Location. Strange that they have Relocation expenses reimbursed as a no. Have to think (hope) that must be a mistake.
Well, if they ever open up the base to the community, Cuba would be a great/highly desirable posting. Might be a worth a risk to get your foot in the door.
My question, "Will DODEA accept class hours from free, open source classes from MIT, Stanford, and Harvard in lieu of paid classes from no-name "universities"?
I'm asking because I spent a lot of money adding credits, internships, and endorsements that have not brought me a position.
hahaIf it's on an official transcript from an accredited college/university, they will generally take it. I'm not sure how that would translate to the type of classes you have in mind. When in doubt, ask HR.
I just received my renewed teaching license, but received it after I updated and finalized my application on EAS. If I go back in and add the new license in my attachments section, will it update properly or not? I want to be sure HR is able to see my license that is good through 2025, not the one that expires this summer. Thank you all!
Out of curiosity, if you are hired with DODEA, how do you renew your certificate? I know as of now I have to have my school board sign off and send in the paperwork. Do you renew in the state that you originally got it in? Is it different?
I...See MoreIn DoDEA, you submit paperwork after your first 2 years to renew, then after 4 years, then every 6 years after that. You do not need recert hours for the 1st 2 years, but after that you need credit hours to renew. In order to keep your certification, you must remain a DoDEA employee. Once you leave, your certification is no longer valid.
I also keep my Arizona certificate active. Thankfully I can file mine online. I don't believe that you have to have a stateside certificate to stay employed with DoDEA, but I like to keep my options open so I make sure to keep it active.

You are not required to maintain a state cert per se, but if you used a state cert to reduce the required credits for DoDEA qualification then I guess it could come back to haunt you if your credentials were every audited.
In any case, we keep our state certs active. We have to do course work for DoDEA so it's basically just paying the additional fee.
DoDEA does not charge a fee for their certifications and you are generally able to submit transcripts, etc. via email.
MissamyI was confused by the numbers too. @RJ what does DDESS and EDS mean? I have seven years of teaching experience and a master's degree. What *number* would I start at?
The pay scale and benefits are different between Americas and overseas. The scale with the numbers is for Americas. If you go back a couple of years, they also used Masters, +15, etc. I think Masters is now salary lane 14 and they only accept 5 years of experience, so that would be lane 14, step 5 (but could be wrong).
EDS is an education specialist degree. It is basically a degree between a Masters and a Phd. DoDEA Americas offers a pay lane for this after Master +30 and before Phd. DoDEA overseas does not.
None of this will matter to you (or anyone) at all unless you are applying for stateside schools.
