I regret that decision everyday. You don't get LQA but you get Cola and Post Hardship Differential. In addition the pay in Guam is the highest. I really want to mention too that it was the best place to work there is much team work and support there. Take it! DoDea SLP
hahaAgree. It's always good to hear first hand information. Also good to hear alternate perceptions, especially since the vast majority of people seem to want to go to/end up in Europe, rather than the Pacific, Guam, etc.
hahaI believe you can apply for VS through EAS based on this information in that section: (NOTE: There are no limitations for candidates to be eligible to apply for Virtual School position. Permanent DoDDS Educators are eligible to apply for Virtual School even though they are not eligible to apply for DoDDS positions.)
If you are already in DoDEA, when you update EAS (for a DDESS role), I know you need a LOR from your current supervisor. Are the "old" letters from your other references still on file? Or does it resend new ones to the same people? I don't want to pester previous folks with a repeat request if they've already completed one for me.
hahaI believe if you just delete and then re-enter the referee that you want to be contacted (or just enter the new referee if it's a new person), the other references will not be affected (and will still be in place/on file).
A minimum of 30 SH in reading/language arts is required. Course work must include teaching of composition (writing process), content area reading instruction, methods of reading instruction, remediation of reading difficulties and diagnosis and prescription instruction.

I teach 12th grade English, Transitional English, concurrent courses Comp I/II, AP Literature, ESL certified, have a Masters in Teaching, and a Masters in English with TESL. Is this enough?? I'm not sure what that last required course is. Would a graduate SPED course for "teaching the exceptional child" work? I'm pretty sure I have something my transcripts that would work for the others.

Now that apps are left pending until referral makes me nervous to try to add anything without knowing for sure. Does DODEA check the pending BEFORE they refer the application, or after a referral and interest?

Also, I am DODEA qualified to teach Middle/Secondary ELA, Middle/Secondary Social Studies, Secondary Speech, Secondary Humanities, K-12 ESL, and Virtual. I am pending re-eval for drama and journalism but probably will be denied. Is this a good combination for referrals?
I've been testing and getting more education and adding certs over the past couple of years to increase my chances and I'm nearing the end of being able to do more. I don't have the time to go get the required courses for Drama/Journalism bc there's nothing in my state for online and I'm tapped out. I finally got a referral earlier this school year but it was requesting me to change my app status to part time so they could interview me for a part time ESL. Ignored it, but wondered if the ESL would finally help me get my foot in the door. Any other referral I get is a generated email saying I wasn't chosen for a specific position I didn't even know I was referred for.

Also, will keyword optimization work in the DODEA app? Such as when completing the skills page?
hahaI've heard of dual credit being done somewhere but it's not been common in the schools I'm familiar with. I think it's an option now, with principal approval but not common as of yet.
In thinking about it, the other option for you might be to add any AP additions you can add via workshop, if it could be reasonably done.
Thank you for your interest in employment with the Department of Defense Education Activity, I am reaching out to you in regards to your EAS inquiry below.
The way qualification evaluations work is that licensure only evaluates/re-evaluates qualifications once tentatively referred on a list. Hiring for the 20/21 school year is not starting until late February or early March so you will not be pulled on a list until schools start submitting position vacancies. Once a vacancy is received that matches the location, position, and work schedule, you will be tentatively referred for the vacancy until your qualifications can be re-evaluated by licensure.
There is no correlation to what degree DoDEA employees hold to the rate they are hired. Education level is only used in setting pay and classes taken are only used to determine qualifications for a specific position. But there are no EAS position you must obtain a degree higher than a bachelors to be selected for.
Some positions require specific courses taken to be qualified to teach them - I will include a link below that goes into greater detail regarding DoDEA qualifications and requirements. There is also a menu on the left side that allows you to explore each positions requirements.
Not so good in that they didn't really address the whole question of competency ratings at all, or the method by which candidates are ranked on referral lists.
I was told after my interview that I should hear this week from usajobs about the position. I have heard nothing yet. Do I email HR? What would be the best address to reach out to? Do I just wait?
I am hoping to get orders soon. I am nervous about getting the orders and not being able to schedule a pack out soon enough. It shouldn't be that busy of a time right now though so that might be in my favor. I am tentatively supposed to start work on March 2nd so I was hoping to get out there a couple weeks ahead of time to get situated. That would require me to pack out two weeks from now. That seems like a push. We will see.
Current dodds teacher. Just got referral for iss in guam. Do any of my years go toward my iss pay schedule? How does pay, housing, work there in comparison to dodds? I'm told you may live in base there, any ideas what that costs in comparison to living on the economy?
Again, my understanding is that LQA is not provided. There are some opportunities to live on base (depending on personal situation/location) with rent set at a market rate. There should be post allowance or equivalent that would offset those costs, to some extent. I saw a figure of $1700 a month thrown out on FB, I think.
Sorry to be so vague. Maybe someone with more first hand knowledge of the ISS positions and/or Guam will post. Otherwise, try FB, if you have not already.
IcanreadI "think" that you get annual RAT but no LQA. I would suggest looking on the DoDEA website or contacting HR to make sure. It looks like rent is very expensive there - starting at $2000 a month. Yikes!
