Q1. What advice can you give us about moving to DDESS? Is there anything that we should know in order to make the move go more smoothly?
We are having HHG shipped to our HOR and have requested the car go to the VPC closest to the new duty station.
Q2. Any thoughts on us being made to reimburse RAT since we won't be here another year?
To share: I will lose this year of service in terms of salary lane because I will not have served 150 days. Additionally, I go backwards in lane as my MA+30 is not honored in DDESS as it was here, specifically that the +30 must be attained after the MA if under the DDESS umbrella.
IsItFriday?HR will probably mess up your leave. As you are an older teacher, you may have built up a substantial amount of leave. There's a good chance that the leave number on your Dodds LES won't be reflected properly properly on your first LES from Ddess, or your second, or your third....
I would humbly like to thank all of you who have provided invaluable feedback to those of us who are attempting to enter the DODEA system or in the process of entering the system. I have been eyeing a position with DODEA for the past 2 years and in my first year of applying as a special education teacher this year I was blessed with an offer to teach in Germany! Honestly, the experience and wisdom offered by those of you who take time to offer thoughtful and well-informed information was invaluable! I am so grateful.
Now that I have accepted my position, I am wondering if anyone is aware of what is covered in per diem stateside? How is per diem allocated and what is covered? I have not been able to get a straight answer on this. On my orders it simply gives a flat rate, but it does not break down what is covered or for how much or for how long.
The challenge in this case is that my family and I started the process of getting our passports executed on a military installation here in CA almost three months ago and after submitting our passport applications it was discovered that the military passport agent did not fill something out correctly in his portion of the application and this in turn caused the passports to be placed in suspension with the State Dept. After being notified of this I again resubmitted the passport applications and was told for weeks that the applications had not been processed. Upon checking in with the person serving as our passport point of contact, I was informed that the State Department was back logged due to the government shut down and that our passports were not currently being processed. When our passports were finally getting processed, I was told that my wife and I needed to resubmit, again, copies of our ID's which we'd already done for a second time when we resubmitted the passport applications.
As of today, neither my family nor myself have our passports, and I have shipped out all of our household goods along with our vehicles. We have been living in a hotel along with renting a vehicle for almost three weeks and our report date has been passed by several days. I have been in contact with my HR point person and the person in charge of the passports on just about daily basis for weeks, so everyone knows what is happening.
The good news is, we are close to receiving our passports (this weekend as I understand it). We are in the process of requesting new orders, so we can then request travel arrangements.
My question now is really about TQSA. I'm not sure what the protocol is under such transitory/hardship circumstances around extending TQSA, but I really hope that it is indeed possible to have my TQSA extended to cover our expenses during our unanticipated time here stateside.
Does anyone know what amount is allocated for lodging expenses per day? What is allocated for food per day? What is allocated for transportation per day; etc…? Am I eligible for an extension of my stateside TQSA if I must stay stateside past my original orders stated date of departure? Also, who do I contact to start getting reimbursed for the expenses that are covered, as the money we are spending is adding up fast.
IcanreadI did some research today. Here's info about the "FOREIGN TRANSFER ALLOWANCE (FTA) - PREDEPARTURE SUBSISTENCE EXPENSES". The link is... https://www.dodea.edu/Offices/HR/employees/allowances/fta.cfm. You wouldn't be able to submit for it until you have access to DAPS - the allowance processing system website.
I have recently submitted my application for DODEA and was wondering if there are any 'next steps' to take. My qualifications have been approved for Grades 1-8, Middle School Mathematics, and Secondary Mathematics. My husband is also applying and is a secondary special education teacher. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Other than that, it's mostly waiting and hoping to g...See MoreHi. Not really. If this year follows past practice, you will get an email in February or so to update your application (i.e. review the information and click submit, reupload documents and re-finalize your EAS). You won't have to re-qualify unless you submit new areas for consideration).
Other than that, it's mostly waiting and hoping to get referral list notices, interviews, etc. You could look and see if there are any other certification areas you could easily add, look at past interview questions and consider how you would answer them, etc. but there is not anything else official that you need to do.
Between the two of you, you sound like you are in as good of shape as anyone (Math and SPED are good areas to have). For you, you might look to see if you could add/offer any AP classes or if you are close to qualifying for any science areas. For your husband, he should try and maximize the populations and age/grade levels he is considered qualified for (e.g. LIMM, LIMS, EI, etc.).
Generally it is just a matter of how many hoops you have to jump through, finding and paying for the transportation, etc. So, likely doable but not necessarily easy.
hahaGenerally speaking, weeks to months. Around 3-4 weeks seems fairly typical (if there is such a thing) but the time of year, the fact that you are with DoDEA already, etc.make it very difficult to predict. Maybe someone with more more recent/relevant experience will post.
DDESSHopefulSo, the universe answered the question with "next business day." I put in for orders and with a report date of 6 weeks, am now hoping the orders happen ASAP. :)
I made some edits to my application and uploaded a couple more items. Do I have to do anything else to refresh the document, like resubmit it, or are those changes in there a visible now?
Greetings from Japan! I am currently a DoDEA teacher and was attempting at updating my EAS application for the new year, however it wont allow to due to HR processing my application. How do I go about updating it if I wanted to apply in a different location?
IcanreadUnfortunately, as a current DoDDS teacher, you are not able to choose overseas locations on your application. You can only choose stateside locations. Apparently it used to be possible to update your EAS application to apply for overseas positions but it is no longer an option.
It doesn't really matter all that much in reality since you can't generally apply for or be considered for other overseas positions while teaching in an overseas location, regardless of what your EAS preferences are. The one rare occasion there was an internal overseas posting for a position I was qualified for/interested in, I had to fill out separate application forms, get my principal to sign off on no backfill required, submit an updated resume, to the principal at the school with the opening, etc. And then it turned out that they had a local candidate all but picked out anyways so I'm not sure why the internal announcement even went out (since they hire locally without announcing openings all of the time).
So my question is: Is it generally frowned upon to upload a PDF of one's resume or cover letter? Or just unheard of? I understand their online application program is coded such that they get the information they need. I'm just another applicant, I get that. However, the only reason this bothers me is because it doesn't include much room for job description. My current job is a bit different from a traditional classroom, and I am rather proud of the aspects of my job that have grown my classroom management and force on me experience that a lot of traditional classrooms don't provide. Being able to provide a resume would allow a place to showcase those responsibilities, even if they look over it.
Should I just forget it and rely on the notion that, should I get a referral, I'll be able to share these documents with those who might care about them?
HelpOthersLike haha said, make sure the information is included in the application itself. If you are asked to interview, you may be asked to send a resume at that time.
