While you are waiting for a possible DOD teaching job, how do you handle signing a contract with your current job? My district has been known to revoke licenses if we break contracts, and our contracts for next school year are supposed to be coming out in March (which seems so early!). I'm trying to decide if it's even realistic for me to be offered a job with DOD and how to handle next year's contract.
SpedTeacher74 I'm in the same situation as my "letter of intent" is on my desk and due back by March 17th stating whether or not I intend to return next year. Our contracts are supposed to be signed sometime in April.

happyteacher Our letter of intent was due in January, but contracts don't get signed until June and they can be broken without penalty until mid July. However, I live in a HUGE military area, so our population is transient and many teachers in the district are navy/army/marine spouses so they can't really punish people for having to move.

That would be relatively easy/cheap to do in some states, depending on your education and experience. Also some states have relatively few (if any) re certification requirements. That way if the worst...See More

infiniti4 My district will allow you to get out of your contract without penalty until mid July. Obviously, it is different within different districts/states. When I accepted my position January 4th, I informed my principal (who is a retired Marine) of my intentions and he was extremely supportive. I have been transparent with my administration throughout th...See More
