Question for those who may be in the know. My husband is the DoD teacher, I'm the dependent. We are stationed overseas in Italy, and I've had medical issues come up. They are unable to treat me here (do not have the appropriate machine) and the machine at Landstuhl is currently down and they do not want me to wait (I've actually been waiting over 2 months already). With our insurance, they said I could be seen pretty much anywhere.

So, was planning on going back to states to where we came here from. I could stay in my house, have family there, etc. They've given us the paperwork to fill out, but we're just totally confused. One of the pieces my husband has to sign is an Excess Cost Agreement for Travel and Transportation Costs. There's also a second form for us to fill out (Request for Employee and Dependent Medical/Dental Travel Authorization) that in section IV. Designated Point we have 2 options to check-One that states, "I elect to travel to the designated point, the facility closest to the PDS, as determined by the Approving Official and based on the advice of the certifying appropriate professional certifying physician. The second states, "I elected a location other than the designated point and agree to pay or reimburse the excess travel and transportation costs incurred by me, my dependent(s), attendants(s)/escort(s), and accompanying family member(s). I have completed, signed, and attached the Excess Cost Agreement to this request.

How do we even find out who the AO is and what is the "designated point?" The form is also asking for date/time of appointment with the new physician, but how do I book an appointment when I have no idea how long the paperwork/orders/travel arrangement part(s) are going to take? This is very confusing and without clear instructions. My doctor here was initially talking about how they normally send military/Navy personnel to Virginia, so I don't know if that would be the "designated point" or what.

Does anyone have any experience with this and can tell me where to go for information. I'm already stressed out about potential health issue, this is definitely not helping, LOL.

haha Sorry to hear it. I had serious health problems with DoDDS in Europe but was luckily able to get treatment in the local area.

I would talk with your union rep. If they do not know the answers to your questions then immediately have them ask for answers from their superior, etc. Someone should be able to get your some answers.
