I am excited to announce that I was given a tentative offer a week back about a week and a half following my second interview. I never did hear back from the first school that interviewed me almost two months ago now.

I have heard the terms tentative offer, firm offer, and orders thrown around quite a bit and I wasn't sure exactly what each entails and when I can feel pretty safe that I'll be secured with a job for this coming fall.

I have heard that a tentative offer means that I have the job assuming I pass my background check (which should be likely since I don't know why I wouldn't). Is this true? Is there any other reason why I might not get the job despite receiving a tentative offer?

Also, what happens if I don't receive my security clearance until after the start of the school year? Do they just replace me with someone else?

haha Welcome aboard!

The whole firm offer step is new this year. In the past it was just tentative offer and then orders, with orders being the way you knew you were locked and loaded, point of no return (virtually). The firm offer means they have checked and verified some/most of your information and nothing problematic has come back.

Bett Don't worry about your account not being frozen yet. I didn't get the inactive email until about a month after I accepted my tentative offer. I did still get referrals, but it's all good it didn't interfere with my processing.
