I think you can only get credit for 10 years with DoDEA.

You will get credit for 10 years (plus a step) for salary purposes but I don't believe that any of you years would carry over towards retirement unless you are a current federal employee. You would be vested in the DODEA retirement by that time but I don't know the exact details (I've only been in 5 years or so and plan on looking more closely at p...See More

With DDESS (DoDEA America) you would start at step 5 (0 experience starts on step 0) and with DoDDS (DoDEA Europe and Pacific) you would start at step 11 (0 experience starts on step 1). You could retire after 20 years of DoDEA service or at a certain age, can't remember the details.

You can increase the % you pay to TSP and you can do the catch up contributions when you are of age to do so.
