I'm just curious: I read something here that retirement is not that great with DOD. That shocks me. I have two family members retired from the government and their pensions are pretty awesome at around $60k per year. If I got hired and could put 20 years into DOD employment, is that not enough for a good pension? I'm in a state with pretty a pretty good pension plan right now. Thanks.

someday Just to add one more thing say when I was younger a couple of those years I didn't meet what the SSA considers substantial earnings then I might have to work a couple more to get to 30 years.

Dr. Ali Fant Thank you someday. Of course, pension laws also change after retirement and you may not be grandfathered. Hence the reason I agree with HaHa, work until you drop.

haha As I said, I don't claim to be an expert. Apparently if you isolate just the pension, then you would do better in some states. I would just say that you should make certain that you are comparing apples to apples as much as you can, keeping in mind that with DoDEA it is pension + SS + TSP with 5% gov't matched funds + increased salary over many sta...See More
