I am currently teaching at an American International school. My US certification is for all Secondary Science. At my school here I also teaching secondary Math classes. Even though I am not looking to be hired as a math teacher I could teach it if necessary. So my question is: should I go through the process of taking the Praxis II to add a mathematics certification, or would my current teaching experience be enough to attract a potential principal.

haha Yes, as someday said, if DoDEA has the subject as a separate certification area (such as Physics) but your state certification is a more general one (like Secondary Science) then you would likely need the additional 12 hours specifically in Physics. We find the same issues in SPED where states often only have a general SPED certification which mean...See More

Joe Wachs Thank you all for your information it has really been helpful. So I did some digging: My degree was in Science education, NC license is 9-12 science, 27 hours in physics, 11 in biology and 8 in chemistry. First question: The requirements webpage says 12 SH of upper level science. What constitutes upper level? 2: I wasnt clear in what you meant by f...See More

haha No problem. As I recall, upper level does not mean that is has to be Masters level, but they do want those amount of credits to be above intro, courses/community college level. I want to say 400 and above but could be wrong.

If your state offered Physics, Biology etc as separate certification areas, and you had those certification areas vi...See More

haha For example, I am from FL so happened to look at their situation. Your science degree and NC certification/credits in physics would likely get you a Physics certification in FL. You could then be able to add Biology and Chemistry by simply passing a subject area test (and paying them money of course!). DoDEA would then only require 6 credit hours i...See More
