I have a Master's degree and 13 years of teaching experience. Does that mean I start at step 13? I've applied for stateside and Europe. Also, I see lots of information about shipping goods and getting housing allowance overseas but I can't find any information regarding stateside employment. Do stateside teachers get a housing allowance? Does the government pay to move their household items? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
haha DoDEA overseas gives a max credit of 10 years and everyone starts on Step 1, so Step 11 is the highest you could start on. DoDEA stateside gives you 5 years max credit and everyone starts on Step 0 so Step is the highest you could start on (but stateside pays a bit more).

HelpOthers haha is accurate, but left out a word. Step 5 is the highest you can start Stateside (including American Territories of Guam and Puerto Rico).

Stateside pay scales have the cost of living already included, which is why Puerto Rico, Quantico, and West Point have different pay scales.

happyteacher If you are above step 5 with Dodea and go back to the states to work for DDESS, do you start on the same step you were on overseas, or is 5 still the max?
