My DoDEA application status is finally "qualified." I graduated from Osterholz American HS (centuries ago) and teaching at a DoDDS school is my dream. I understand that it is extremely competitive, so I want to keep adding things to my resume that will help my chances. I have a Master's and am qualified for middle and secondary English and Social Studies. I also have AP & Dual Credit experience. I am trying to decide between National Boards or an additional degree (French). Which one will best serve my purpose of getting hired? --And does DoDEA offer a stipend (or any kind of pay incentive) for National Boards?
someday National Board would look good to a hiring principal but I would think adding additional qualifications in French or any other subject would make you more competitive for Dodds.

It could maybe add to your competency rating which might increase your chances of making a referral but this is unconfirmed. I do not believe that DoDEA offers a stipend for it.

English or SS by themselves are fairly common ...See More

Buzz Thank you so much! Your response is very helpful. Only 9 hours for an additional subject? I thought a degree (in that area) was required to teach a subject? I think I could grab journalism easily if I only need 9. My masters is actually English/Creative Writing. Thanks again. Your responses to other posts have been helpful to me as well.

haha When in doubt, double check with HR before spending any money but having your English degree seems to be the Golden Ticket to adding those other areas with only 9 hours in the subject:

A major in journalism, 30 SH in journalism, or a minimum of 9 SH in journalism plus sufficient additional course work in related fields such as communicatio...See More
