Qualifications with Tentative Offer

I have received a tentative offer for DODEA Europe, and have some questions considering I have very little time to decide.

1) I received my offer letter but when I interviewed and discussed the position with the principal the teaching assignments differ. One of them is a field I have no experience in and am not even qualified for, and more importantly isn't something I want to teach. I cant't understand how this area would be part of my assignment. If I'm not qualified can I even be required to teach it?

2) I never got a notice of a reference list, the interview was a cold call. My offer letter came from HR in Europe not from headquarters in VA and my EAS application is still active. I don't know what to make of this?

3) My offer is for a one year tour that is full time but seasonal does this mean It's only a one year temporary job?

Just Me Thank you for getting back to me! Six years sound excruciating! ! I don't know how I'll wait that long I want this so badly. Looks like I have more work to do.

It is always possible the principal will change what you teach after they know how many students they will really have and not just the estimate. Plans change. It is always possible the principal will change what you teach after they know how many students they will really have and not just the estimate. Plans change. You have given the principal the flexibility at least and maybe you will teach something you enjoy more.

1) Usually HR will decide you are not qualified after the principals says you are wanted, but if you have received the offer letter, HR must have decided you are qualified... Interesting.

2) The referral lists have been hit or miss. The offer letter now does usually come from the regional HR office, but not always. Even if your EAS application is active, you will not receive additional offers. If you are asked to interview, let the person know you have already accepted an offer.

3) It just means that your location renews yearly (hardship area) rather than every two years. All teachers are seasonal employees. You will not be paid your first summer and only during later summers if you request a change in the way your pay is provided. You will continue to receive your Living Quarters Allowance through the summer though. A position that ends at the end of the year is an NTE (not to exceed) position.

4) They would love to hire someone with many qualifications, because even if they have estimates for the students they will have next year, it can change. If you are in a small school like Ankara, you may have a different class each period of your teaching day.

5) They probably offered a position to someone else in previous years who ended up arriving late because of other obligations and they are hoping this will not happen again.

6) Background check does include a credit check, but how much it involves the hiring process is only known to the those who do it.

7) Your application will be frozen for the rest of the school-year, but you would be able to ask to have it made active again the following year. However, if you hold a rare certification and they cannot find anyone in the active pool of applicants, they permit you to be considered for another position in the same year (very rare).
