I have posted here before, and have gotten some excellent guidance. I had another nuanced question, and if anyone might have some feedback, it would be appreciated.

I finally got my 7-12 Masters Social Studies Teaching License renewed! I have been working in Japan for 7 years (I am currently an Assistant Professor at a private University). My state licensure was from NC, so I had to jump through a few hoops (taking both seriously difficult required Praxis II exams in Osaka to get the license in "active" status). I also had my last 7 experience attached to my license by paying a fee and submitting some proof of employment at my past international schools (where I taught Social Studies in English and Japanese).

I have updated my information in the Dodea EAS system and the USA jobs system.

My question is this. Before I start my search in Japan. Is it a good idea to send packets with my letter of intent/resume/credentials to hopeful future employers (the princ...See More

haha I know quite a few people who were hired while teaching overseas and most of them were able to provide the information and receive the CONUS hire benefits. A few of them did not and so yes, you cannot count on anything.

warmachine7954 Yes, I applied as a local hire because HR wouldn't open my application unless I did. I had talked with a few people in DoDDS about it. Hopeful Here's a crazy question to add to the mix. If you are teaching in an international school in a country where there are no DODEA schools, would you be considered a CONUS hire and receive the LQA and household goods shipping benefits?

H It depends. And it sounds like it really depends on whoever is making that decision. My husband has worked both for an international school in Germany and for DODEA. haha It's a grey area. I know of many people (including ourselves) who were teaching in international schools and were offered jobs with DoDEA with full CONUS hire benefits. I also know of a few people who were teaching at an international school in the same country where they were offered a DoDEA position. There have been some people who were not so lu...See More
