Hey all! I've been a lurker on this site off and on for awhile now (sorry! ;)) and planning on applying next summer. I am BS certified Elem K-5 with middle school endorsements for ELA, SS, and all branches of Science. Looking to round it out with the math endorsement next year, as well as finish up my National Board Certification. I keep seeing many who have several certs and seem equally qualified but have been waiting for awhile. Are the middle school certs pretty common, or are they sought after more? Obviously my elem K-5 is dime a dozen...so just trying to figure out what may give a leg up. Any advice is helpful...thank you so much in advance.

haha @ T.Rob/OP. It's a good question. If the OP has MS Science based on the required DoDEA credits or half of the required credits with a state cert, then HS Science shouldn't be that far of a leap. BubbleHead isitfriday, How is being certified in the same area for HS & MS more valuable? I am having trouble wrapping my non-DoDEA brain around this

Also, if I were a principal at a combined MHS I would give preference to candidates that could teach across MS and HS since many teachers are expected to teach both populations (and some positions are ac...See More

Jennifer P Thanks all for the comments. I was a science major before I got my elementary ed degree, so I'm pretty strong in my science coursework, though I haven't cross checked my transcripts (from the late 90s) with the DOD expectations. I don't know how comfortable I would feel with teaching a high school level science at this point, though I would never s...See More

IsItFriday? All Dodea schools are small, really small. Most applicants fail to appreciate this little fact. Tha smallest schools have around 100 students and the biggest max out at a 1,000. And there are only a small handful of Dodea schools that approach four digits.

The more certs you have the more useful you are to a principal, or prinicpals, if th...See More
