Hello,

Thank you for all your help. I hope that I can give back to this chat-board one day instead of just asking nuanced questions.

My question are these:

1. Upon getting hired at a base in Japan how is the pay distributed? All of my credit card payments, utilities, services, rent, is on an automatic withdrawal system from my Japanese bank account, which I have maintained for the last 7 years. Will I be forced to have an American bank account, or can I retain my Japanese bank accounts and receive my pay by direct deposit in Yen? I am not sure how this works.

2. The pay is listed as 55,000 dollars a year. Depending on the strength or weakness of the dollar, do overseas Dodea employee salaries actually fluctuate from year to year? Or is it adjusted or inflated accordingly to keep in at 55,000 dollars(no matter if the dollar is strong or weak) without being a financial detriment to the overseas employee.

Thank You for your help

#2. Your pay is in US dollars and does not change based on currency rates. We receive COLA/post...See More

HelpOthers The only thing I would add is that your LQA fluctuates depending on the US$ to Japanese Yen rate, because rent and utilities are paid in Yen based on what the DoD has decided that average 2 weeks of pay Yen rate is.

I know someone who has a Japanese bank account and I believe she withdraws from the US bank to deposit in the Japanese bank. ...See More

haha I had to ask about another subject so included this question in a query to the powers that be. The official answer (although not necessarily the definitive one) is that they "can only send payments to a bank that is US owned we cannot complete overseas transactions". So it would seem (although possibly other people have found ways around this) that...See More
